1
00:01:11,305 --> 00:01:14,263
What role did you play?
The recent local elections, Mr. Rinzi?

2
00:01:14,341 --> 00:01:17,379
you confused me
With someone else, Senator

3
00:01:17,477 --> 00:01:19,764
I am in cement
and contracting business

4
00:01:19,880 --> 00:01:21,621
What are you saying?
Income per year?

5
00:01:21,748 --> 00:01:24,001
About 20,000 or 30,000.

6
00:01:24,067 --> 00:01:27,492
Say you have 30,000
A $60,000 house here

7
00:01:27,554 --> 00:01:30,842
A winter place in Miami.
A summer place in Maine.

8
00:01:30,924 --> 00:01:33,803
Two limousines, a yacht worth 50,000.

9
00:01:33,860 --> 00:01:37,956
All on $30,000 a year. how
Would you do it, Mr. Rinzi?

10
00:01:38,031 --> 00:01:41,001
Sometimes I wonder at myself, Senator.

11
00:01:43,120 --> 00:01:45,543
Testimony was given here
When you got paid yesterday...

12
00:01:45,656 --> 00:01:48,944
$200,000 in cash to
influence the election

13
00:01:49,009 --> 00:01:51,660
yes i read
in papers

14
00:01:51,778 --> 00:01:54,327
Now if someone would just tell me
Where is all that money hidden-

15
00:01:54,398 --> 00:01:57,208
- Do you deny meddling in the elections?
- It seems?

16
00:01:57,267 --> 00:02:00,111
You are finally chosen.
Isn't it, Senator?

17
00:02:16,637 --> 00:02:20,983
Fire engulfed everywhere
Upper floors of the hospital -

18
00:02:22,442 --> 00:02:24,319
You say this man keeps
taking off...

19
00:02:24,428 --> 00:02:26,339
without pulling down
The shadows?

20
00:02:26,446 --> 00:02:28,357
So what is your complaint?
Miss? Boy!

21
00:02:28,465 --> 00:02:30,365
here

22
00:02:33,453 --> 00:02:36,798
Well, from the position of the body, he wants
He has been immersed in the river for several days.

23
00:02:36,907 --> 00:02:38,841
This fur coat he was wearing
It was all he had

24
00:02:38,959 --> 00:02:41,030
Well, maybe he was
A wealthy society man

25
00:02:41,094 --> 00:02:43,745
Mink is not class conscious,
Sunny, no

26
00:02:43,814 --> 00:02:45,760
no more clothes
Unidentified -

27
00:02:45,832 --> 00:02:48,904
Mr. Hutcheson wants
Sir, I will see you in his office

28
00:02:49,019 --> 00:02:51,021
Boy!

29
00:02:57,561 --> 00:02:59,336
What about Rienzi
George's story?

30
00:02:59,413 --> 00:03:01,461
The boss wants
Check it out first

31
00:03:21,451 --> 00:03:23,488
A column head
Bank of three lines

32
00:03:23,587 --> 00:03:25,498
A. P. He says it belongs to the newspaper
being sold

33
00:03:25,572 --> 00:03:28,189
what
was it sold to whom when

34
00:03:28,258 --> 00:03:31,455
- About that, Frank?
- This is something that only the heirs of the barracks are,

35
00:03:31,561 --> 00:03:33,723
Hutcheson and the gods
He knew, not us

36
00:03:33,797 --> 00:03:36,960
This is a conspiracy to keep you
Good and ignorant as you are

37
00:03:37,033 --> 00:03:39,263
was sold
I can't believe it.

38
00:03:39,369 --> 00:03:41,269
Don't believe the related press?

39
00:03:41,354 --> 00:03:44,164
Me, Me Maine 2000.

40
00:03:44,274 --> 00:03:46,151
Better run for your lives, men.

41
00:03:46,226 --> 00:03:48,649
And don't forget to trample
Women, loudly

42
00:03:48,712 --> 00:03:51,329
recording? Give me the city table.

43
00:03:51,448 --> 00:03:54,224
Look who is the boss? who
What does it say in the newspaper?

44
00:03:54,317 --> 00:03:57,025
Editor, Mr. Hutcheson.
Then he is the man I want to see.

45
00:03:57,137 --> 00:04:00,038
Well, now, he is busier than
A bird dog, why don't you sit?

46
00:04:00,157 --> 00:04:02,000
If there is no problem.

47
00:04:02,109 --> 00:04:04,692
She is still in makeup
Call it conference, call it

48
00:04:04,795 --> 00:04:07,503
Credit controls inflation
to stop billions

49
00:04:07,614 --> 00:04:09,525
yes Frank Allen. urgent

50
00:04:09,583 --> 00:04:12,075
OK, billions are needed.

51
00:04:12,152 --> 00:04:16,885
National budget
0.P.S., and.AM,, p.CA.

52
00:04:16,990 --> 00:04:19,664
What does all this mean?
To the reader?

53
00:04:19,743 --> 00:04:22,269
Consumption tax? Hmmm
It looks like a disease

54
00:04:22,379 --> 00:04:25,019
This page will be one per article
In the country during the day too.

55
00:04:25,132 --> 00:04:27,612
What does this tax plan mean?
To the average man and woman?

56
00:04:27,684 --> 00:04:30,597
Not billions, that's impossible
Figure here, break it down.

57
00:04:30,704 --> 00:04:33,093
yes sir what will it cost
Housewife to buy groceries?

58
00:04:33,190 --> 00:04:36,535
How much more for a car? A radio?
fifty dollars? hundred? how much

59
00:04:36,610 --> 00:04:39,523
Run the story as it is, front page.
New lead for the second edition.

60
00:04:39,579 --> 00:04:41,593
right

61
00:04:41,665 --> 00:04:43,963
The story of the United press flood
In the same slot?

62
00:04:44,034 --> 00:04:47,038
- The photos haven't arrived yet?
- With a list of casualties.

63
00:04:47,103 --> 00:04:48,992
very good Yes, Frank Ed.

64
00:04:53,393 --> 00:04:55,487
What about the dead naked murder story?

65
00:04:55,595 --> 00:04:57,472
Is it murder?
It seems

66
00:04:57,547 --> 00:05:00,391
It seems! who is he

67
00:05:00,500 --> 00:05:03,014
I don't know yet. took some
Although his photos

68
00:05:03,086 --> 00:05:04,997
very interesting

69
00:05:06,957 --> 00:05:08,868
Put them on a postcard
And send them to Paris.

70
00:05:08,942 --> 00:05:11,400
The second part. play it
bottom no photo yes sir

71
00:05:11,511 --> 00:05:13,798
Good story, George
Close it.

72
00:05:13,914 --> 00:05:15,928
yes

73
00:05:15,982 --> 00:05:18,599
You are late for the dome. ok

74
00:05:18,685 --> 00:05:20,790
You can leave tonight
Dealing with that upstate strike?

75
00:05:20,904 --> 00:05:22,861
Oh, I want to stay
With Rinzi's story

76
00:05:22,923 --> 00:05:25,597
You are wasting your time, my dear
Not if we can prove him guilty.

77
00:05:25,692 --> 00:05:27,569
It is not our job
To prove that he is guilty

78
00:05:27,677 --> 00:05:29,964
We are not detectives
Not in the crusade business

79
00:05:30,080 --> 00:05:33,072
Give it a week, forget it, state
The Senate could not prove anything.

80
00:05:33,149 --> 00:05:35,095
It also could not explore
چهار سال پیش

81
00:05:35,202 --> 00:05:38,479
We've had a good circus, that's it
All television had a field day.

82
00:05:38,555 --> 00:05:41,206
همه اوراق
increased its circulation,

83
00:05:41,274 --> 00:05:43,163
And Rinzi's lawyers got richer.

84
00:05:43,276 --> 00:05:46,655
A week and three days
Please, I got a good clue.

85
00:05:48,715 --> 00:05:51,946
very good Stay out of trouble

86
00:05:54,221 --> 00:05:56,223
Ed.

87
00:05:56,306 --> 00:05:59,048
That's right, Frank.
Darling is on the auction block.

88
00:05:59,159 --> 00:06:03,949
But we are the best outfit in town
Maybe the country, but why? چرا فروش؟

89
00:06:04,047 --> 00:06:07,460
Money is usually the reason
Something is sold, isn't it?

90
00:06:07,567 --> 00:06:09,501
Tell them I'm on my way up.

91
00:06:09,619 --> 00:06:12,225
They are heirs and lawyers
Right now in the dome...

92
00:06:12,339 --> 00:06:15,616
Waiting for an explanation of the nature
Their crime with statistics and figures...

93
00:06:15,692 --> 00:06:17,638
and lies

94
00:06:17,761 --> 00:06:20,150
Another "f" and they don't get drafted.

95
00:06:22,265 --> 00:06:24,176
but mother
The paper belongs to us

96
00:06:24,284 --> 00:06:26,218
Why should we go?
To court to sell it?

97
00:06:26,336 --> 00:06:28,691
Maybe because we never
He intended to sell it

98
00:06:28,755 --> 00:06:31,565
Oh please we have mother
A hundred times more passed than that

99
00:06:31,675 --> 00:06:33,734
The court will take over
Make up your mind, Mrs. Garrison.

100
00:06:33,810 --> 00:06:35,596
- Ed.
- Mrs. Garrison.

101
00:06:35,712 --> 00:06:37,077
What kept you going?

102
00:06:37,147 --> 00:06:39,058
How is the pregnant mother?
dirty

103
00:06:39,165 --> 00:06:41,133
- Hi, Ed.
- Alice

104
00:06:41,251 --> 00:06:43,413
You look very good
thank you how is your husband

105
00:06:43,520 --> 00:06:46,069
Oh, good. good
Nice, isn't it?

106
00:06:46,189 --> 00:06:49,147
Let's finish this. I think
You know why we are here, Mr. Hutcheson.

107
00:06:49,209 --> 00:06:52,088
Almost everyone seems to know
Except for the people who work here.

108
00:06:52,195 --> 00:06:56,371
We are sorry for this. We thought of the best way
Make a public announcement separately.

109
00:06:56,499 --> 00:06:59,025
The death of a newspaper
Never cautious

110
00:06:59,119 --> 00:07:01,213
Here we go again.

111
00:07:01,288 --> 00:07:03,905
The last will
of the late John Garrison,

112
00:07:04,024 --> 00:07:06,311
just before
His death 11 years ago,

113
00:07:06,376 --> 00:07:09,380
designated as his heir
His eldest daughter, Alice,

114
00:07:09,496 --> 00:07:13,228
His daughter Catherine
and his wife Margaret

115
00:07:13,333 --> 00:07:16,064
As far as Catherine got it
His majority last week...

116
00:07:16,186 --> 00:07:18,154
And it was deserved
by full vote,

117
00:07:18,271 --> 00:07:20,558
These three shareholders decided
- Have you decided?

118
00:07:20,690 --> 00:07:23,569
Unanimously?
Of course.

119
00:07:23,677 --> 00:07:26,317
Oh, do you have any objections?

120
00:07:26,379 --> 00:07:28,393
Does it make it?
Any difference?

121
00:07:28,465 --> 00:07:31,947
none So I have no objection.

122
00:07:32,068 --> 00:07:35,026
It was the reason for the decision
- Should we go into details?

123
00:07:35,138 --> 00:07:37,106
I'm not feeling well

124
00:07:37,307 --> 00:07:39,344
All my staff
It feels the same

125
00:07:39,426 --> 00:07:42,623
Oh, Ed. Alice or
Do I know about newspapers?

126
00:07:42,729 --> 00:07:44,606
It gives you income.

127
00:07:44,664 --> 00:07:47,281
We never even come here
Except twice a year for meetings.

128
00:07:47,400 --> 00:07:49,368
You are invited
every day

129
00:07:49,436 --> 00:07:52,758
Ms. Courtney's husband feels the money
It is wiser to invest elsewhere.

130
00:07:52,872 --> 00:07:55,739
John Garrison founded this paper.
Not Mrs. Courtney's husband.

131
00:07:55,809 --> 00:07:57,720
We're taking care of you, Ed. what

132
00:07:57,827 --> 00:08:00,592
We always try anyway. you to
Get a percentage of the sale price.

133
00:08:00,714 --> 00:08:03,934
Your contribution will be small
Thank you more than $50,000.

134
00:08:04,050 --> 00:08:06,917
You must inform all personnel
They will be paid for two weeks.

135
00:08:07,020 --> 00:08:09,944
- By the way - wait a minute,
Looks like we're closing.

136
00:08:10,056 --> 00:08:12,184
Who buys the day? what
Can it make a difference?

137
00:08:12,308 --> 00:08:15,050
To the 1,500 people who work for them
You are very different

138
00:08:15,161 --> 00:08:17,380
So who buys?

139
00:08:17,447 --> 00:08:19,939
Or are you ashamed of it?

140
00:08:22,218 --> 00:08:24,198
Lawrence White
is a buyer

141
00:08:24,270 --> 00:08:27,149
white? We are sold on the standard.

142
00:08:27,257 --> 00:08:29,510
Oh, I think so
I am vomiting.

143
00:08:29,626 --> 00:08:31,526
Also 1.

144
00:08:31,644 --> 00:08:33,612
Mr. White's paper
It is very successful

145
00:08:33,730 --> 00:08:35,858
He will undoubtedly make
This one is also more profitable

146
00:08:35,965 --> 00:08:38,127
This will not be paper anymore.
It will be lost in the standard.

147
00:08:38,201 --> 00:08:40,397
As far as we are concerned,
His offer is generous.

148
00:08:40,470 --> 00:08:43,917
He just buys our circulation.
Features and goodwill

149
00:08:43,990 --> 00:08:47,153
It is deleting itself
Competition, that's it

150
00:08:47,260 --> 00:08:50,036
Mrs. Garrison, you must stop them.

151
00:08:50,146 --> 00:08:53,400
Your husband created a new type
Journalism, and you helped him.

152
00:08:53,466 --> 00:08:55,992
Look at the first one
paper you have ever printed

153
00:08:56,102 --> 00:08:59,606
Here is page one.
Quote:

154
00:08:59,672 --> 00:09:02,585
"This article will fight
To improve and improve

155
00:09:02,659 --> 00:09:05,048
"We will never be satisfied
Only by printing news

156
00:09:05,128 --> 00:09:07,176
"We will never be afraid
wrong attack,

157
00:09:07,280 --> 00:09:10,534
What with the looting wealth
Or predatory poverty."

158
00:09:10,633 --> 00:09:12,533
You don't sell
The day you are dying

159
00:09:12,652 --> 00:09:14,654
Hearing for approval
The sale will be made...

160
00:09:14,771 --> 00:09:16,739
In the surrogate's court
the day after tomorrow

161
00:09:16,806 --> 00:09:19,901
You will be there, of course.
I never go to a funeral.

162
00:09:21,928 --> 00:09:24,704
I think
I love that man.

163
00:09:24,781 --> 00:09:26,954
Very exciting, very

164
00:09:27,016 --> 00:09:30,145
Maybe it should be replaced
He until the sale is over.

165
00:09:30,220 --> 00:09:33,667
Oh, shut up
please

166
00:09:33,790 --> 00:09:36,202
Stop it! Stop it!

167
00:09:36,309 --> 00:09:40,394
Come get it, Frank

168
00:09:43,149 --> 00:09:46,471
Kill him, Frank, kill him.

169
00:09:48,154 --> 00:09:50,065
hey hang up

170
00:09:54,727 --> 00:09:56,923
how are you
in case

171
00:09:57,030 --> 00:10:00,250
yes
what happened

172
00:10:00,316 --> 00:10:04,503
One punch, six shoves, two kicks,
Yelling a lot is not a decision.

173
00:10:04,621 --> 00:10:07,010
Henry? Well, I was adjusting
There, minding my own business-

174
00:10:07,107 --> 00:10:10,509
He asked for it. He heard the rumor.
Quit work on record without notice.

175
00:10:10,593 --> 00:10:13,540
Rumor? Well, how
About that, Mr. Hutcheson?

176
00:10:13,596 --> 00:10:17,590
Is it a rumor? We have the right
To protect ourselves, isn't it?

177
00:10:17,667 --> 00:10:19,613
Well, go ahead

178
00:10:19,719 --> 00:10:21,596
Tell us we got it
Something to worry about

179
00:10:27,343 --> 00:10:29,539
the day after tomorrow
in the surrogate's court-

180
00:10:31,848 --> 00:10:34,237
You have two weeks of pay
The newspaper is closing to you

181
00:10:34,317 --> 00:10:36,866
Now stop and look
For other work or...

182
00:10:36,986 --> 00:10:39,239
Wait for the trial
Judge's decision

183
00:10:39,305 --> 00:10:41,569
It depends on you.

184
00:10:41,641 --> 00:10:45,896
It was nothing personal, Mr. Hutcheson. i
- I have my family to think about.

185
00:10:45,979 --> 00:10:48,243
That's right, Henry.
Nothing is personal

186
00:10:50,333 --> 00:10:53,132
Oh, Mr. Hutcheson, the mayor wants it
- I'm busy

187
00:10:54,687 --> 00:10:57,110
what are you going to do
I got an assignment

188
00:10:57,207 --> 00:11:00,848
harry There is still one
Sports page to exit.

189
00:11:15,992 --> 00:11:19,951
to fight A man of your age made me feel better

190
00:11:20,079 --> 00:11:22,867
He had the right to resign. they
Everyone should leave maybe.

191
00:11:22,932 --> 00:11:25,219
Anyway, I got it
Out of my system

192
00:11:25,318 --> 00:11:27,673
you were with new
York world, isn't it?

193
00:11:27,754 --> 00:11:30,951
Under the Pulitzer
Cobb and Barrett

194
00:11:31,057 --> 00:11:33,765
what did you do
is it folded Let's see now

195
00:11:33,877 --> 00:11:37,347
I think I came to my senses
Drink Yes, I'm sure of it.

196
00:11:37,413 --> 00:11:41,213
- So what did you do? - He came here
And he worked for the old man of the barracks.

197
00:11:41,334 --> 00:11:43,211
He was great
journalist

198
00:11:43,286 --> 00:11:46,881
Yes, but not good
As a terrible father.

199
00:11:46,940 --> 00:11:49,966
Daughters, one of them is married
To a first-class broker...

200
00:11:50,076 --> 00:11:52,556
Who knows how to invest
Their money is wiser

201
00:11:52,662 --> 00:11:55,529
They hate paper, that is
As they hated the old man.

202
00:11:55,598 --> 00:11:59,273
I couldn't visit him when he was alive, so
Now they kick him when he's dead, yes?

203
00:11:59,352 --> 00:12:02,617
Five minutes to press time.
ok come in

204
00:12:02,672 --> 00:12:06,188
Everyone kicks in this racket
Sooner or later, dead or alive.

205
00:12:06,309 --> 00:12:09,085
Get it in a fudge box.
yes sir oh, mayor-

206
00:12:09,178 --> 00:12:12,455
Damn the mayor
yes sir

207
00:12:14,133 --> 00:12:16,170
the mayor

208
00:12:16,252 --> 00:12:19,540
All he cares about is who he supports
If we fold him for re-election.

209
00:12:19,656 --> 00:12:23,456
So far, the boys are doing well
Vibrant Awakening in Oberyn Ever been to one?

210
00:12:23,526 --> 00:12:27,201
Before you know it, boy, you won't be
Feeling a thing, not a happy thing.

211
00:12:27,297 --> 00:12:29,618
That's what awakening is for.

212
00:12:41,110 --> 00:12:44,136
Yes, that's right.

213
00:12:44,247 --> 00:12:47,694
brothers and sisters,
Be silent for a minute

214
00:12:47,800 --> 00:12:49,871
friends and unemployed-

215
00:12:49,969 --> 00:12:51,903
Hear, hear
lend me your ears

216
00:12:51,988 --> 00:12:54,832
We are gathered here to bury Caesar. No!

217
00:12:54,941 --> 00:12:59,162
Our brothers and sisters have come
To praise the day, not bury it.

218
00:13:01,431 --> 00:13:05,390
I craved, bro! i got
Insistence! Repent and be happy.

219
00:13:05,451 --> 00:13:08,489
Brother Cleary, a sinner
With 14 years of presence,

220
00:13:08,604 --> 00:13:13,906
Sitting or lying down, will
Leave the misery Hallelujah!

221
00:13:14,010 --> 00:13:16,172
Master, oh, B flat,
if you please

222
00:13:16,245 --> 00:13:19,636
Flash! Scoop-scope. Da Dee Deep
D-D-D-D-D-D-Deep.

223
00:13:19,699 --> 00:13:22,714
I came from the Jordan River
From a weekly scandal sheet...

224
00:13:22,802 --> 00:13:24,952
and asked old John Garrison for a job.

225
00:13:25,021 --> 00:13:27,160
"Are you a journalist?
Or a reporter?" he said

226
00:13:27,223 --> 00:13:29,271
"What's the difference?"
I said

227
00:13:29,375 --> 00:13:31,446
A journalist makes himself
The hero of the story

228
00:13:31,594 --> 00:13:36,475
"The reporter is just a witness."

229
00:13:36,549 --> 00:13:38,529
Barendolar's sister.

230
00:13:38,634 --> 00:13:42,525
Sister Barendolar has spirit
Did the research department move?

231
00:13:44,674 --> 00:13:46,984
Ah the ghosts shook him, very well.

232
00:13:47,060 --> 00:13:49,097
Hallelujah and pass
Collection box

233
00:13:49,195 --> 00:13:51,072
Wilbrandt's sister
to health

234
00:13:51,180 --> 00:13:54,718
coming through the rye, present
And oh, it counts as half.

235
00:13:54,834 --> 00:13:56,745
Hello!

236
00:13:56,853 --> 00:13:59,527
Hey, hey, hey! come on
Asal, give us a spiritual talk

237
00:13:59,605 --> 00:14:01,710
This corpse is lovely.

238
00:14:01,808 --> 00:14:05,415
Alas, poor dear
I knew it well.

239
00:14:05,495 --> 00:14:10,444
And why not? I gave it to him
The best 14 years of my life

240
00:14:10,550 --> 00:14:12,621
And what do I have?
To show it, huh?

241
00:14:12,735 --> 00:14:16,979
Eighty one dollars in
Bank, two dead husbands...

242
00:14:17,090 --> 00:14:22,267
And I have two or three children
Always wanted but never had

243
00:14:22,328 --> 00:14:24,751
I have everything covered
electrocuted...

244
00:14:24,864 --> 00:14:26,866
Loves nest fights

245
00:14:26,933 --> 00:14:30,836
I have fallen arches, unfixed teeth,
And you want to know something, I...

246
00:14:30,903 --> 00:14:34,851
I never saw Paris, though

247
00:14:34,957 --> 00:14:37,881
But I will not change
those years

248
00:14:37,994 --> 00:14:42,397
Not for nothing
in this world

249
00:14:44,550 --> 00:14:47,702
- I see the light, brother.
Hallelujah!

250
00:14:47,787 --> 00:14:50,119
Cleanse your soul, sinner

251
00:14:50,223 --> 00:14:52,772
hold your tears
This is what readers want.

252
00:14:52,842 --> 00:14:55,334
No!
Kick out the atheist

253
00:14:55,395 --> 00:14:58,239
Don't sell it short it is
Our circulation doubled...

254
00:14:58,314 --> 00:15:01,102
And three times
Our advertising pedigree

255
00:15:04,437 --> 00:15:07,566
Wild and yellow, but
Not exactly a newspaper

256
00:15:09,225 --> 00:15:12,229
He keeps his people working. hallelujah

257
00:15:12,345 --> 00:15:15,952
Well, maybe if I gave you this
One piece of paper, you still have a job.

258
00:15:16,015 --> 00:15:18,894
There is a place for this
The type of paper, where is it, father?

259
00:15:19,001 --> 00:15:21,106
Okay, so it's not
Your paper type

260
00:15:21,220 --> 00:15:23,188
Who do we take out?
Papers for? you

261
00:15:23,289 --> 00:15:26,156
you you
lol

262
00:15:26,225 --> 00:15:28,364
It is not enough anymore
Just let them know

263
00:15:28,444 --> 00:15:31,288
they want comics
Matches, puzzles.

264
00:15:31,397 --> 00:15:34,651
They want to know how to bake a cake.
Win friends and influence the future.

265
00:15:34,750 --> 00:15:37,583
Ergo, astrology,
Hints about horses

266
00:15:37,653 --> 00:15:41,078
Interpretation of dreams up to them
Can win the lottery numbers.

267
00:15:41,257 --> 00:15:45,501
And if they accidentally
stumbling on the first page,

268
00:15:45,561 --> 00:15:47,507
News.

269
00:15:47,630 --> 00:15:51,100
<i>The old man in the barracks is lying
Molding in the grave</i>

270
00:15:51,167 --> 00:15:55,104
The old man in the barracks is lying
Molding in the grave

271
00:15:55,221 --> 00:15:57,644
<i>The old man in the barracks is lying
Molding in the grave</i>

272
00:15:57,740 --> 00:16:00,698
You know, I never got to Paris either.

273
00:16:00,810 --> 00:16:03,324
Anesthetize brother

274
00:16:03,396 --> 00:16:15,070
Glory, glory, hallelujah

275
00:16:15,141 --> 00:16:19,715
His day ended and he left

276
00:16:35,261 --> 00:16:37,810
Do you feel any pain, Ed?

277
00:16:39,432 --> 00:16:41,662
Ah, it was a good awakening.

278
00:16:41,767 --> 00:16:43,610
good night

279
00:16:52,128 --> 00:16:54,574
Mr. Hutcheson?

280
00:16:54,664 --> 00:16:57,668
I have tried
To see you all day, sir

281
00:16:57,733 --> 00:17:00,225
they said
I find you here and -

282
00:17:00,336 --> 00:17:04,193
This introduces me, sir. from it
My journalism professor at university

283
00:17:04,307 --> 00:17:08,164
Oh, so you want to be
A journalist

284
00:17:08,277 --> 00:17:11,008
Yes, sir, a student A
Semester is recommended.

285
00:17:11,080 --> 00:17:13,026
and you are
yes sir

286
00:17:13,099 --> 00:17:16,296
Journalist is the best
Career in the world

287
00:17:16,402 --> 00:17:18,404
you know
What is the profession?

288
00:17:18,521 --> 00:17:23,948
This is a skilled job. yes
s0 repairs the watch. no

289
00:17:24,060 --> 00:17:27,439
A profession is one
Acting for the public good

290
00:17:27,547 --> 00:17:30,130
That's why the newspaper
Work is a profession

291
00:17:30,233 --> 00:17:33,100
Yes, C
"Yes sir."

292
00:17:33,169 --> 00:17:36,104
I, oh
- I think you want to become a columnist.

293
00:17:36,172 --> 00:17:38,277
foreign correspondent
to Egypt

294
00:17:38,357 --> 00:17:41,099
do you speak arabic
no sir but-

295
00:17:41,210 --> 00:17:44,043
But you know
customs, habits, religion,

296
00:17:44,113 --> 00:17:48,584
People's superstitions. well me
Passed a course in Middle East relations -

297
00:17:48,668 --> 00:17:51,831
You know Egyptian psychology
Muslim politics and diplomacy?

298
00:17:51,904 --> 00:17:56,182
No, Mr. Economist
Topography and geography of Egypt?

299
00:17:56,292 --> 00:17:59,159
I speak a little French.
Maybe I can get a job in...

300
00:17:59,278 --> 00:18:03,909
Yes, so did I, but I couldn't hold it
I started working in my office in Paris.

301
00:18:03,966 --> 00:18:06,424
I see

302
00:18:08,604 --> 00:18:10,914
hey joe

303
00:18:14,110 --> 00:18:16,954
So, you want to be
A reporter?

304
00:18:17,079 --> 00:18:19,980
Here are some recommendations
About this racket

305
00:18:20,082 --> 00:18:23,461
Never change your mind about it
Maybe not the oldest profession,

306
00:18:23,603 --> 00:18:25,537
But this is the best.

307
00:18:25,605 --> 00:18:27,585
yes sir

308
00:18:49,111 --> 00:18:51,022
hello

309
00:18:51,097 --> 00:18:53,748
why don't you
Go home, Ed?

310
00:18:53,816 --> 00:18:55,830
yes

311
00:19:02,091 --> 00:19:06,756
guess what
Scotch

312
00:19:06,846 --> 00:19:10,703
I have decided
I dedicate my life to you

313
00:19:10,816 --> 00:19:12,727
yes dear
yes dear

314
00:19:14,637 --> 00:19:17,345
That's why I want
You are the best years of my life

315
00:19:17,406 --> 00:19:19,670
mmmm

316
00:19:21,477 --> 00:19:24,924
You know what your problem is
You are a "skeptic".

317
00:19:24,997 --> 00:19:27,204
hmm
Oh, a skeptic

318
00:19:27,350 --> 00:19:30,126
yes dear

319
00:19:30,186 --> 00:19:32,450
White beer?
homogenized

320
00:19:34,040 --> 00:19:37,578
We could not increase it
With a little scotch?

321
00:19:37,677 --> 00:19:39,884
drink it
as it is

322
00:19:39,945 --> 00:19:43,848
Nora, I love you

323
00:19:43,916 --> 00:19:46,806
Let's get married again
tonight

324
00:19:55,194 --> 00:19:59,222
This would bring my second
childhood already has,

325
00:19:59,281 --> 00:20:01,227
coming here
this time of night

326
00:20:04,704 --> 00:20:08,060
Nora, I am free

327
00:20:08,157 --> 00:20:10,592
was fired canned

328
00:20:10,676 --> 00:20:14,306
No more paper. nothing
To keep us apart

329
00:20:14,363 --> 00:20:18,425
- The paper has been sold.
- I know

330
00:20:25,991 --> 00:20:30,462
There are many divorces
Bad thing, Nora

331
00:20:30,579 --> 00:20:36,040
Down from my Olympics
Heights, I come...humble.

332
00:20:37,703 --> 00:20:40,092
I want to make a decent one
Your wife again, Nora.

333
00:20:40,172 --> 00:20:43,107
- Yes, my dear.
- Yes, my dear.

334
00:20:44,593 --> 00:20:46,539
We will continue
second honeymoon

335
00:20:46,612 --> 00:20:51,061
We never had a first. No, I am
Leveling my darling is no more paper

336
00:20:51,233 --> 00:20:53,144
travel That's it
we will do

337
00:20:53,202 --> 00:20:55,341
Europe, South America, everywhere.

338
00:20:55,404 --> 00:20:57,611
don't worry
About the cost

339
00:20:57,723 --> 00:21:00,590
I am loaded.
So I understand.

340
00:21:00,659 --> 00:21:04,812
I mean more money than
We have ever had in our lives

341
00:21:04,880 --> 00:21:09,067
I was rewarded for being a good boy. Ed.

342
00:21:11,137 --> 00:21:13,367
listen

343
00:21:13,472 --> 00:21:15,736
You shouldn't
They have come here

344
00:21:17,910 --> 00:21:20,299
It doesn't work.

345
00:21:22,047 --> 00:21:23,833
yes

346
00:21:33,926 --> 00:21:38,841
Not a bad copy
Not bad at all

347
00:21:38,914 --> 00:21:43,226
How is the advertising business?

348
00:21:43,352 --> 00:21:46,060
You know you were right
To leave the newspaper

349
00:21:46,121 --> 00:21:49,705
Now you have something
You can to.

350
00:21:49,809 --> 00:21:52,710
Something legitimate

351
00:21:52,828 --> 00:21:56,332
I went to the vigil tonight
You have seen the light, sister

352
00:21:56,398 --> 00:21:59,686
hallelujah

353
00:22:05,074 --> 00:22:08,681
Why should I fight?
for what

354
00:22:08,761 --> 00:22:11,105
Publishers don't care
About the paper

355
00:22:11,163 --> 00:22:13,325
Paper doesn't care
about me

356
00:22:13,399 --> 00:22:17,199
I don't care
anyone but you

357
00:22:17,319 --> 00:22:19,196
Have I not met him?
somewhere before?

358
00:22:19,255 --> 00:22:21,394
right now
in the living room

359
00:22:21,473 --> 00:22:24,386
Oh, yes.
fight with what

360
00:22:24,493 --> 00:22:27,713
I am an employee,
Not a shareholder

361
00:22:27,813 --> 00:22:30,293
Maybe I should have
brought it to the readers.

362
00:22:30,366 --> 00:22:34,291
Ah, what do they matter? you
Must have trouble for that

363
00:22:34,353 --> 00:22:37,141
hot story

364
00:22:37,223 --> 00:22:39,169
Nora?

365
00:22:39,275 --> 00:22:42,301
right here baby
"Right here baby."

366
00:22:42,411 --> 00:22:45,756
I should not think
About anyone but us

367
00:22:46,765 --> 00:22:48,711
yes dear

368
00:22:48,817 --> 00:22:52,264
You know, we'll have some good stuff
Many times together as before

369
00:22:52,371 --> 00:22:55,557
Remember that time in Saranac that
Everyone thought we weren't married.

370
00:22:55,624 --> 00:22:59,117
So we went out and got it
married? for the second time.

371
00:22:59,194 --> 00:23:01,299
and fishing trips
We never moved on

372
00:23:01,363 --> 00:23:03,752
and hunting trips
I promised you

373
00:23:03,866 --> 00:23:05,960
<i>We'll be making them all the time. Yes dear.</i>

374
00:23:06,068 --> 00:23:09,515
How did I go to Renault?
Try to stop the divorce

375
00:23:09,588 --> 00:23:12,523
What did you charge?
me with incompatibility

376
00:23:12,591 --> 00:23:16,425
incompatibility
Haha, it was a lie

377
00:23:16,545 --> 00:23:18,422
they know
Where do I get to?

378
00:23:18,530 --> 00:23:20,919
Oh, I don't have to count
Yes to anyone dear

379
00:23:24,219 --> 00:23:26,130
I don't like him.

380
00:23:26,238 --> 00:23:28,172
I think
Another reason

381
00:23:28,290 --> 00:23:30,031
good night my dear

382
00:24:01,724 --> 00:24:06,127
urban table what

383
00:24:06,195 --> 00:24:08,243
oh hold it

384
00:24:13,969 --> 00:24:16,973
ok go ahead

385
00:24:17,089 --> 00:24:19,410
When did this happen?

386
00:24:19,508 --> 00:24:21,317
What time is it now?

387
00:24:21,393 --> 00:24:24,397
six what
6:20.

388
00:24:24,463 --> 00:24:27,239
where did it happen

389
00:24:27,316 --> 00:24:29,865
you called
the hospital?

390
00:24:29,985 --> 00:24:32,306
They send
Ambulance?

391
00:24:32,371 --> 00:24:34,271
ok

392
00:24:37,176 --> 00:24:40,020
Good morning my dear Ed.

393
00:24:40,129 --> 00:24:43,155
I thought no one
He knew you were here

394
00:24:43,265 --> 00:24:45,324
Where else can I go?
When I'm in trouble?

395
00:24:45,401 --> 00:24:48,211
Ed-
Who sleeps here?

396
00:24:48,287 --> 00:24:50,233
The time has come
One word, Ed.

397
00:24:50,339 --> 00:24:52,501
oh not now baby
I'm in a hurry

398
00:24:52,574 --> 00:24:54,963
That call was urgent.
dinner tonight

399
00:24:55,077 --> 00:24:57,341
Why not every night?
Is Alberto's place good?

400
00:24:57,463 --> 00:25:01,229
At 8:00 I thought you were in a hurry

401
00:25:01,283 --> 00:25:03,684
did you have a good time last night

402
00:25:03,786 --> 00:25:05,891
yes dear
did i do

403
00:25:05,954 --> 00:25:07,968
so what
do you know

404
00:25:18,133 --> 00:25:21,285
I was walking around, sir.
First, I did not notice anything.

405
00:25:21,370 --> 00:25:24,442
Then I heard a kind of low moaning
It comes down from the road

406
00:25:24,506 --> 00:25:27,635
Well, good morning
Car accident, huh?

407
00:25:27,693 --> 00:25:29,604
Take him to the hospital
Name?

408
00:25:29,728 --> 00:25:31,662
I said take it to him
Hospital! wait a minute -

409
00:25:31,780 --> 00:25:33,976
My name is Burroughs.

410
00:25:34,033 --> 00:25:36,809
I work for the day.
He runs it.

411
00:25:36,885 --> 00:25:39,240
Oh Ben!

412
00:25:44,159 --> 00:25:47,254
They started beating me
When they put me in the car

413
00:25:47,379 --> 00:25:49,279
How many people were there?

414
00:25:49,381 --> 00:25:51,383
Three, maybe four.

415
00:25:51,533 --> 00:25:54,047
So what was three?
or four i don't know

416
00:25:54,119 --> 00:25:57,760
very good They give you one
go with what the fist

417
00:25:57,823 --> 00:26:01,339
One of them hit me in the face
Something hard a sap, I guess.

418
00:26:01,410 --> 00:26:04,254
what did they say nothing no
After they put me in the car

419
00:26:04,363 --> 00:26:07,173
before? yes out of
Hall of Records I told you.

420
00:26:07,232 --> 00:26:09,143
Say it again, please, sir.

421
00:26:09,268 --> 00:26:11,179
shut up
Hall of Records

422
00:26:11,286 --> 00:26:14,278
you went there
To review Rienzi.

423
00:26:14,339 --> 00:26:16,353
George

424
00:26:16,425 --> 00:26:19,076
The man I talked to
He must have referred to Rinzi.

425
00:26:19,144 --> 00:26:22,978
yes how do you know He left her
The office is probably on the phone for a few minutes

426
00:26:23,098 --> 00:26:25,169
probably But you are not positive, no

427
00:26:25,267 --> 00:26:29,386
This is not admissible in court. how else
Were they waiting for me when I came out?

428
00:26:29,455 --> 00:26:31,981
Who was waiting?
Rinzi's men

429
00:26:32,057 --> 00:26:36,915
Can you identify them? one,
Maybe a former boxer - Torpedo.

430
00:26:37,029 --> 00:26:41,785
Do you know his name? white I am
I'm not sure, something white

431
00:26:41,884 --> 00:26:44,091
If I bring it,
Can you identify him?

432
00:26:44,153 --> 00:26:46,997
He asked me if I was Burroughs. he
He asked me if I was working for the day.

433
00:26:47,072 --> 00:26:49,018
What was the make of the car?
i don't know

434
00:26:49,124 --> 00:26:51,923
Sedan? blue? black? what what are
Are you trying to protect Rinzi?

435
00:26:52,044 --> 00:26:53,887
I want the facts
which does not jump

436
00:26:53,946 --> 00:26:56,859
Facts that stand against it
Rinzi lawyers and defamation cases.

437
00:26:56,932 --> 00:26:59,651
The truths that tear Rinzi apart
The syndicate is completely open

438
00:26:59,718 --> 00:27:03,518
There just can't be any mistakes.
We cannot make any withdrawals.

439
00:27:05,374 --> 00:27:07,251
George

440
00:27:21,273 --> 00:27:24,231
how does it look i am afraid
He may lose that eye.

441
00:27:26,061 --> 00:27:28,291
Mrs. Burrows.

442
00:27:28,397 --> 00:27:31,014
Go, Mr. Hutcheson.
leave us alone

443
00:27:31,083 --> 00:27:32,938
do you blame me

444
00:27:33,001 --> 00:27:35,720
Who sent him out?
And for what?

445
00:27:35,838 --> 00:27:38,512
Big and fat glory
From a newspaper?

446
00:27:38,574 --> 00:27:40,679
You don't have a paper
even more

447
00:27:44,796 --> 00:27:47,447
Mr. Allen? one moment please
Good day, good morning

448
00:27:47,549 --> 00:27:49,961
Put every man you can
Save for Rienzi's story.

449
00:27:50,035 --> 00:27:52,083
Image layout? works
where does he get his money

450
00:27:52,187 --> 00:27:54,633
His links, data, facts,
Facts and more facts

451
00:27:54,756 --> 00:27:57,362
It is a difficult thing to prove
They, Ed. Fix them later

452
00:27:58,393 --> 00:28:00,339
Charlie
son

453
00:28:00,445 --> 00:28:03,733
Oh, the city morgue? This is
Willbrand Roz

454
00:28:03,866 --> 00:28:06,870
Not yet identified
That nude in a fur coat?

455
00:28:06,985 --> 00:28:10,637
Ms. Bardolar
keep calm

456
00:28:10,739 --> 00:28:12,571
Have you ever heard of Rinzi?
mmmm

457
00:28:12,641 --> 00:28:15,451
OK now Rinzi, Thomas. fifty one

458
00:28:15,561 --> 00:28:18,815
Born, Palermo, Sicily.
Immigrated here, 1914.

459
00:28:18,881 --> 00:28:20,792
public presence
School number 47

460
00:28:20,866 --> 00:28:22,777
He has two children
by common-law wife Gertrude

461
00:28:22,901 --> 00:28:24,869
We do not recommend him
For the Chamber of Commerce

462
00:28:24,937 --> 00:28:27,076
We want to condemn him
Every crime known in the books,

463
00:28:27,189 --> 00:28:29,669
All of them and some of them are committed
Not even you, not even I, had ever heard of it.

464
00:28:29,741 --> 00:28:31,755
I want everything.
yes sir

465
00:28:31,827 --> 00:28:34,785
I must have taken 20 pictures of him
They were pulling him out of the river.

466
00:28:34,880 --> 00:28:37,474
This fur coat is worth $5,000 or $6,000
- Tim, grab your camera.

467
00:28:37,549 --> 00:28:40,519
Burroughs coverage in the city
George Hospital? our george

468
00:28:40,586 --> 00:28:43,840
it is true You take Rinzi,
His wife, house, car, everything.

469
00:28:43,922 --> 00:28:46,129
What if he broke down?
Camera? He has done this before.

470
00:28:46,241 --> 00:28:48,824
Let him. you receive
Pictures of him doing it

471
00:28:48,961 --> 00:28:51,567
go ahead

472
00:28:51,630 --> 00:28:54,827
bill
- Bill, I want a cartoon about Rienzi.

473
00:28:54,950 --> 00:28:57,021
it must be hard
Hard, below the belt.

474
00:28:57,085 --> 00:29:00,817
A vulture that sucks life
Did you notice outside of a city?

475
00:29:00,889 --> 00:29:04,496
But a vulture only hunts
On the dead or dying

476
00:29:04,610 --> 00:29:06,510
Baits

477
00:29:06,595 --> 00:29:09,565
"Let us be your prey." P-R-E-Y.

478
00:29:09,631 --> 00:29:11,611
Paper, why paper?
Should I stick my neck out?

479
00:29:11,717 --> 00:29:13,890
I want it
For the first edition

480
00:29:13,952 --> 00:29:17,889
I don't like the idea. I'm in a jam with
Rienzi and tomorrow the paper will be folded anyway.

481
00:29:17,990 --> 00:29:20,220
Where does that leave me?
you are fired

482
00:29:20,325 --> 00:29:22,373
wait a minute
- Pay him and get him out of here.

483
00:29:22,494 --> 00:29:25,373
Why excitement? Everyone knows
We're washed up, it's your fault.

484
00:29:25,480 --> 00:29:27,585
But I did four jobs here
This year is my mistake.

485
00:29:27,683 --> 00:29:29,663
son

486
00:29:29,768 --> 00:29:31,543
urban table
Get your coupon.

487
00:29:33,305 --> 00:29:35,273
Miss Bentley, get a hold of yourself
steno-type there.

488
00:29:35,340 --> 00:29:37,354
Get Dr. Emmanuel
on the phone

489
00:29:37,426 --> 00:29:41,397
Withdraw $500 from my bank and
Deliver it to Burroughs' wife.

490
00:29:41,496 --> 00:29:43,271
Mr. Bellamy is here
has been waiting

491
00:29:43,382 --> 00:29:45,350
Oh, yes.

492
00:29:45,417 --> 00:29:49,058
Rewrite the desk. Crab shift.
What is crab change?

493
00:29:49,137 --> 00:29:51,185
after midnight
We serve crabs.

494
00:29:51,256 --> 00:29:53,361
Thermidor, naturally.

495
00:29:53,425 --> 00:29:55,951
oh-

496
00:29:56,028 --> 00:29:59,805
Editorial page one ten
Double column point type.

497
00:29:59,865 --> 00:30:01,913
scribble,

498
00:30:02,017 --> 00:30:04,531
Move with the bold line,
will be:

499
00:30:06,338 --> 00:30:08,955
John Garrison

500
00:30:09,024 --> 00:30:12,449
Quote:

501
00:30:12,611 --> 00:30:15,637
"I'm dead.

502
00:30:15,714 --> 00:30:18,331
"I'm dead
For 11 years

503
00:30:18,400 --> 00:30:22,041
“Until tomorrow, that
The newspaper may also be dead.

504
00:30:22,104 --> 00:30:26,098
“But as long as it lives, the day
Will continue to report the facts...

505
00:30:26,174 --> 00:30:30,361
"And the meaning
those truths without fear,

506
00:30:30,429 --> 00:30:34,024
“No distortion, no
Hope for personal gain...

507
00:30:34,116 --> 00:30:36,608
as always
has done."

508
00:30:38,086 --> 00:30:40,350
yes
Dr. Emmanuel Roy Do.

509
00:30:42,574 --> 00:30:46,408
hello doctor
No, no, no. i am fine

510
00:30:46,511 --> 00:30:49,606
Yes, I want to ask you a favor

511
00:30:49,681 --> 00:30:53,993
A personal friend of mine needs
Your help, he is in the city hospital.

512
00:30:54,102 --> 00:30:57,891
The name is Burroughs.
George Burrows. what

513
00:30:59,691 --> 00:31:01,705
what is
More importantly, Dr

514
00:31:01,777 --> 00:31:05,452
You are giving a speech on
London or saving a man's sight?

515
00:31:05,564 --> 00:31:07,601
Well, cancel it

516
00:31:07,666 --> 00:31:09,930
Well then delay it

517
00:31:10,052 --> 00:31:12,510
We were not very busy
Raise funds for your clinic

518
00:31:12,571 --> 00:31:14,676
Well, I will for sure
It is on a personal basis

519
00:31:14,790 --> 00:31:17,532
friend for what
If not for kindness?

520
00:31:17,626 --> 00:31:19,913
thank you

521
00:31:20,028 --> 00:31:22,372
A true philanthropist

522
00:31:23,815 --> 00:31:27,604
oh where was i

523
00:31:27,686 --> 00:31:30,496
"Will continue to report the facts
and the meaning of those facts"-

524
00:31:30,555 --> 00:31:32,569
Oh, that sentence
It is too long

525
00:31:32,641 --> 00:31:35,133
screw it up change it
The word "distortion".

526
00:31:35,243 --> 00:31:38,520
Maybe no one knows
What does that mean?

527
00:31:38,597 --> 00:31:41,464
Paragraph quote:

528
00:31:41,583 --> 00:31:44,189
"What are the facts?

529
00:31:44,302 --> 00:31:46,259
Rinse material
Your ballot boxes."

530
00:32:16,601 --> 00:32:19,343
If anything saves
Paper, that's what.

531
00:32:27,879 --> 00:32:31,008
Do you still see the paper?

532
00:32:31,066 --> 00:32:33,990
Who is responsible?
Obviously Hutcheson

533
00:32:34,069 --> 00:32:36,219
Hutcheson?
I am so afraid

534
00:32:36,321 --> 00:32:39,643
So talk to him

535
00:32:39,758 --> 00:32:43,581
Why can't you?

536
00:32:43,645 --> 00:32:47,832
I want to meet him
personally

537
00:32:47,916 --> 00:32:52,331
why not

538
00:32:52,387 --> 00:32:55,800
Everyone can be
has arrived Do you remember to judge?

539
00:32:55,874 --> 00:32:57,842
Evening, Mr. White.

540
00:32:57,926 --> 00:32:59,815
Evening, Mr. White.
Mr. White

541
00:32:59,878 --> 00:33:02,210
Give me a three-column lead
With two bank lines in that attack.

542
00:33:02,330 --> 00:33:05,231
Evening, Mr. White. you saw
It was broadcast on Rienzi in the day?

543
00:33:05,333 --> 00:33:07,370
Yes, sir, what do you have?
About it done for our article?

544
00:33:07,435 --> 00:33:09,506
is it over sir a reporter
Getting into a brawl in the barroom?

545
00:33:09,621 --> 00:33:11,851
They say it was Rinzi.
But can they prove it?

546
00:33:11,923 --> 00:33:14,381
P-prove it? first page
Editorials, flashy cartoons-

547
00:33:14,442 --> 00:33:16,353
Why, it's out of fashion,
Mr. White

548
00:33:16,478 --> 00:33:19,823
And what is ultra-modern
About this horse in our article?

549
00:33:19,931 --> 00:33:23,003
Then give me some old models
Journalism in Standard

550
00:33:23,118 --> 00:33:25,394
yes sir

551
00:33:25,504 --> 00:33:27,279
catch me
city hospital

552
00:33:27,355 --> 00:33:30,165
*

553
00:33:30,275 --> 00:33:32,186
Sorry I came late

554
00:33:32,244 --> 00:33:35,111
do you like it This is the best
Looking at the front page in the city

555
00:33:35,230 --> 00:33:37,107
as usual
Makeup-

556
00:33:37,182 --> 00:33:40,026
thank you cartoon,
Editorial with the name of Barracks.

557
00:33:40,135 --> 00:33:42,046
yours?
mmmm

558
00:33:42,103 --> 00:33:44,083
It is wonderful.
as usual

559
00:33:44,155 --> 00:33:46,340
And how are we doing?
Are we the same as always?

560
00:33:46,525 --> 00:33:48,607
Maybe the heirs will do that
Sit and pay attention

561
00:33:48,710 --> 00:33:51,668
from us They do not sell
Paper not now.

562
00:33:51,780 --> 00:33:54,715
Not in the middle of a fight like
This is like Rinzi's confirmation.

563
00:33:54,783 --> 00:33:56,979
It is wonderful
Dress for dinner

564
00:33:57,102 --> 00:33:59,036
You look much better
from last night

565
00:33:59,104 --> 00:34:00,993
how do you feel
romance

566
00:34:01,106 --> 00:34:03,017
Good evening Mrs. Hutcheson. evening

567
00:34:03,124 --> 00:34:05,479
Mr. Hutcheson is at your desk
Ready, sir, are you ordering now?

568
00:34:05,594 --> 00:34:09,064
Maybe an appetizer first?
Oh, no thanks, I have mine

569
00:34:09,180 --> 00:34:12,332
Oh, steak just for me.
Telephone, Mr. Hutcheson.

570
00:34:12,400 --> 00:34:15,756
Tell them I am giving food
They said it is important.

571
00:34:15,870 --> 00:34:18,703
Urgent dear
as usual

572
00:34:22,360 --> 00:34:25,614
Call her ma'am all the time
HUTCHSON Yes, sir

573
00:34:25,730 --> 00:34:27,505
Oh, Mrs. Hutcheson.

574
00:34:30,969 --> 00:34:34,178
- Yes? - This is Wilbrandt.
I am in the city morgue.

575
00:34:34,256 --> 00:34:36,406
Where the girls
Check out their fur coats

576
00:34:36,508 --> 00:34:39,569
Mmmm naked dead? how about him

577
00:34:39,678 --> 00:34:42,192
Well, his mother showed up
Identify him this afternoon

578
00:34:42,264 --> 00:34:44,175
Is A-
Mrs. Schmidt

579
00:34:44,299 --> 00:34:46,529
This is a girl's name
Bessie Schmidt

580
00:34:46,585 --> 00:34:49,998
But he also used
Name Sally Gardiner

581
00:34:50,071 --> 00:34:52,108
why bother me
write it down

582
00:34:52,240 --> 00:34:54,242
Well, what I wanted
Knowing this is

583
00:34:54,342 --> 00:34:59,200
Now, Alan thought I should
check with you first, but oh,

584
00:34:59,314 --> 00:35:03,228
This Ms. Schmidt knows one
Much more than he says

585
00:35:04,352 --> 00:35:06,263
no

586
00:35:06,388 --> 00:35:09,289
No, but I thought maybe if you did
Talked to him, you can get -

587
00:35:09,391 --> 00:35:11,200
not to be
Dramatic, Mrs. Wilbrandt.

588
00:35:11,309 --> 00:35:13,539
No, no, no, I can't.
You manage it.

589
00:35:25,590 --> 00:35:28,298
His name is Fife
pass me in the dressing room

590
00:35:28,376 --> 00:35:31,186
This is one way
I have with the ladies

591
00:35:32,597 --> 00:35:35,498
I am getting married
Again, Ed.

592
00:35:39,387 --> 00:35:42,539
it is true I am giving
It will give you direct and fast.

593
00:35:42,624 --> 00:35:46,857
You don't know that man. he - he
My boss at the advertising agency

594
00:35:48,229 --> 00:35:50,197
first me
Now another boss

595
00:35:50,265 --> 00:35:52,245
Becoming a
You're used to it, aren't you?

596
00:35:52,317 --> 00:35:54,524
I would like you to meet him.
Do you mean to compare notes?

597
00:35:54,586 --> 00:35:56,623
Thanks, I know
Already enough people

598
00:35:56,738 --> 00:35:59,514
His name is Louis Shaffer. I don't do that
I want to know something about him

599
00:35:59,658 --> 00:36:02,593
I told him everything about you. everything?

600
00:36:02,661 --> 00:36:04,607
sit down

601
00:36:04,713 --> 00:36:06,750
I am not one
of your present-day husbands,

602
00:36:06,815 --> 00:36:09,204
Chin up, stiff upper lip
and all this

603
00:36:09,317 --> 00:36:11,206
always ready
For reasonable discussion of issues

604
00:36:11,286 --> 00:36:14,278
There is nothing to discuss
I do not need your consent

605
00:36:14,389 --> 00:36:17,131
We have been divorced for two years
- I do not recognize divorce.

606
00:36:17,225 --> 00:36:19,455
You agreed to it.
I was wrong

607
00:36:19,527 --> 00:36:23,293
You are my wife not only for this reason
Someone said a few words about us

608
00:36:23,415 --> 00:36:25,929
But because of all the things we meant
to each other for eight years.

609
00:36:26,000 --> 00:36:28,935
You can't do it all with
More words, legal or illegal.

610
00:36:29,054 --> 00:36:32,149
- They want you on the phone,
Mr. Hutcheson - Go away

611
00:36:32,207 --> 00:36:35,120
You want me to drop the paper, okay?
I'll find another job, something -

612
00:36:35,226 --> 00:36:38,378
I don't want you to leave - I had to
Come back today, it's over.

613
00:36:38,496 --> 00:36:41,716
It's true that you have to go
Back is where you belong.

614
00:36:41,783 --> 00:36:44,980
you are the best
journalist in the world

615
00:36:45,086 --> 00:36:47,635
I don't want to change
Which I never did.

616
00:36:47,739 --> 00:36:50,993
your whole life
And it's true for you.

617
00:36:51,109 --> 00:36:55,228
But I have the right to live
Also, and you can't give it to me.

618
00:36:55,296 --> 00:36:59,267
can he
maybe

619
00:36:59,334 --> 00:37:03,862
Can you be the same with him?
You were with me, is it that easy?

620
00:37:05,757 --> 00:37:09,204
do you like him

621
00:37:09,327 --> 00:37:12,388
No, you don't.
Not like this

622
00:37:12,497 --> 00:37:15,774
Maybe love is not enough
To make the marriage work

623
00:37:15,884 --> 00:37:18,171
Please Mr. Hutcheson.

624
00:37:18,286 --> 00:37:21,369
Sorry to bother you
Again, but this is your office.

625
00:37:21,489 --> 00:37:26,381
Mr. Allen said if you don't come to your senses
Phone back to the newspaper.

626
00:37:26,511 --> 00:37:28,354
I'm sorry sir

627
00:37:43,211 --> 00:37:45,088
yes

628
00:37:46,314 --> 00:37:49,238
what Yank what story?

629
00:37:49,300 --> 00:37:53,396
The story of Wilbrandt
About Sally Gardiner

630
00:37:53,505 --> 00:37:57,009
Well, it was drawn
by our advertising department

631
00:37:57,075 --> 00:38:01,296
It appears Mr. Andrew Wharton, President
From Wharton Department Store,

632
00:38:01,412 --> 00:38:03,289
The caviar ticket was a year.

633
00:38:04,833 --> 00:38:08,474
That's right, that's right

634
00:38:08,586 --> 00:38:11,965
Composition room. A column head
A bank in this weather report.

635
00:38:12,023 --> 00:38:13,969
yes
Jake?

636
00:38:14,042 --> 00:38:16,249
As for Willbrandt's story,
Sally Gardiner?

637
00:38:16,361 --> 00:38:19,422
yeah keep it
But don't kill it

638
00:38:30,692 --> 00:38:33,366
You worry about every story
In our article, Mr. Fan Wei?

639
00:38:33,478 --> 00:38:35,492
It just seemed to me
This content was defamatory

640
00:38:35,597 --> 00:38:38,339
We have a hundred stories in this field
Check all of their threads for defamation? no sir

641
00:38:38,449 --> 00:38:40,486
Or any of them?
no sir

642
00:38:40,552 --> 00:38:43,874
I see You are a self-appointed censor
Only in stories about big advertisers.

643
00:38:43,955 --> 00:38:46,731
I was trying to protect us. We or
You or Mr. Wharton and how much?

644
00:38:46,808 --> 00:38:49,106
He denies this story.
Wilbrandt also included his own denial.

645
00:38:49,177 --> 00:38:51,157
From then on,
It depends on the police

646
00:38:51,212 --> 00:38:53,317
I thought as a matter of policy
- Politics?

647
00:38:53,431 --> 00:38:57,095
Since when the advertising department
Does this newspaper dictate its policy on news?

648
00:38:57,168 --> 00:39:01,423
I did not act myself
You got the guts, so you went to Wharton.

649
00:39:01,539 --> 00:39:03,473
Run the story.
I spoke with Alice Garrison.

650
00:39:03,591 --> 00:39:05,980
Mr. Wharton came here. We called
He was at her disposal.

651
00:39:06,044 --> 00:39:08,923
He has no authority.
Until I leave here

652
00:39:09,030 --> 00:39:11,772
or you arranged
for that too? no sir

653
00:39:11,883 --> 00:39:13,692
you are slipping

654
00:39:13,751 --> 00:39:16,755
Well, you talk to Mr. Wharton.
He is waiting here

655
00:39:17,789 --> 00:39:19,769
Mr. Wharton

656
00:39:19,841 --> 00:39:22,253
This is Mr. Hutcheson.
how are you sir

657
00:39:24,445 --> 00:39:27,540
I can give you my side
it? I will take care of this.

658
00:39:30,985 --> 00:39:33,317
Please do not publish it
Why the story? Isn't that right?

659
00:39:33,421 --> 00:39:37,085
It cannot be useful to you, and
It is ruining me and hurting my family.

660
00:39:37,158 --> 00:39:39,775
I have done business
With your paper for 20 years

661
00:39:41,112 --> 00:39:43,023
You are a great advertiser.
Mr. Wharton

662
00:39:43,147 --> 00:39:45,366
We need your business, but
Not on those very good terms.

663
00:39:45,450 --> 00:39:48,431
I made a mistake with Sally
But that was 10 years ago

664
00:39:48,536 --> 00:39:50,766
And I have paid for it
In blackmail every month

665
00:39:50,822 --> 00:39:53,280
I'm sorry Mr. Wharton.
This is about the police.

666
00:39:53,358 --> 00:39:55,725
You are interested
Indeed, isn't it?

667
00:39:57,912 --> 00:39:59,755
Sally called one day.

668
00:39:59,831 --> 00:40:03,802
He was quitting his job
His store was letting me off the hook.

669
00:40:03,851 --> 00:40:05,762
He said there is
another man

670
00:40:05,887 --> 00:40:09,926
Another man? It always exists. in
In this case, that man was Thomas Rinzi.

671
00:40:09,991 --> 00:40:13,006
Sally said she loved him.
It will never bother me again

672
00:40:13,077 --> 00:40:17,742
He even sent some back...
Harmful photos... of us.

673
00:40:17,815 --> 00:40:19,726
He said he is
Adjust for life

674
00:40:19,851 --> 00:40:22,081
What did he mean by that?
he didn't say

675
00:40:23,871 --> 00:40:25,760
You definitely don't think so
I killed Sally

676
00:40:25,857 --> 00:40:27,734
I have not seen him
In more than two years

677
00:40:27,809 --> 00:40:30,585
Miss Wharton knew about Sally.
He offered me to talk to you.

678
00:40:30,662 --> 00:40:33,370
Your paper forced me to come
here, but now that i'm here

679
00:40:33,431 --> 00:40:35,388
I don't know -

680
00:40:35,466 --> 00:40:41,121
Wharton, you can tell your wife it's me
Holding the story, thank you, sir

681
00:40:41,189 --> 00:40:43,715
But if that thread is not about Rienzi jelly
- It will be

682
00:40:43,825 --> 00:40:45,600
it is better
For both of us

683
00:40:47,178 --> 00:40:49,761
Jim?
later baby

684
00:40:49,881 --> 00:40:51,758
what do you have
As for Sally Gardiner?

685
00:40:51,816 --> 00:40:53,830
Shaggy blonde?
Oh yeah

686
00:40:53,901 --> 00:40:56,359
He was broad.
Yes, but who?

687
00:40:56,437 --> 00:41:00,112
When are you coming in?
For gossip? from now

688
00:41:03,544 --> 00:41:07,378
Jim was Rinzi
Playing with Sally?

689
00:41:07,482 --> 00:41:10,759
what do you want
I want proof to be sure

690
00:41:10,868 --> 00:41:13,474
From this, a companion
It can make a hole in the head.

691
00:41:13,554 --> 00:41:15,784
Yes, he could.
Does this bother you?

692
00:41:15,907 --> 00:41:18,547
Oh, no. No, no, no.

693
00:41:27,518 --> 00:41:29,395
harry

694
00:41:30,555 --> 00:41:32,592
Have you ever heard of Herman Schmidt?

695
00:41:32,674 --> 00:41:35,291
little things had a kind
A political career in the arena

696
00:41:35,360 --> 00:41:37,340
I think boxing referee.

697
00:41:37,412 --> 00:41:40,928
Oh, yes. I got it now
Brother of Sally Gardiner.

698
00:41:41,032 --> 00:41:43,262
Sally may have been in jail
with Rinzi

699
00:41:43,334 --> 00:41:46,508
I know one thing. Rinzi is tied
With the boxing commission

700
00:41:48,039 --> 00:41:52,067
Yes, take Schmidt.
sweat it

701
00:41:52,176 --> 00:41:54,497
About his job?
About Sally

702
00:41:54,562 --> 00:41:56,542
Boy!
Here is Willbrandt's copy.

703
00:41:56,614 --> 00:41:59,936
All we have about Sally is this
She was once a bathing beauty.

704
00:42:00,051 --> 00:42:02,565
One thing you lack
it is time

705
00:42:02,637 --> 00:42:04,708
Sally and her brother
They were born here

706
00:42:04,822 --> 00:42:07,723
His mother came from Germany.
dead father

707
00:42:07,825 --> 00:42:10,795
Known criminal record for
Year of marriage not registered

708
00:42:10,912 --> 00:42:13,768
yes

709
00:42:13,881 --> 00:42:16,521
Mr. Louis Shaffer
to see you

710
00:42:19,053 --> 00:42:20,873
ok

711
00:42:23,357 --> 00:42:25,268
barn dollar?
yes sir

712
00:42:25,376 --> 00:42:29,335
Calm down if Lugerman is closed
Finance page, ask him to login.

713
00:42:29,397 --> 00:42:31,183
yes sir

714
00:42:38,239 --> 00:42:40,219
Nice to meet you Mr.
yes

715
00:42:40,291 --> 00:42:42,396
Did you take those pictures?
Oh, right here

716
00:42:42,510 --> 00:42:44,353
put them here
Timely

717
00:42:44,462 --> 00:42:46,396
Sit down, Mr. Shaffer.
Thanks, but me

718
00:42:46,497 --> 00:42:49,171
Leave space for the lost
Period between Wharton and Rinzi

719
00:42:49,250 --> 00:42:51,230
yes sir

720
00:42:51,302 --> 00:42:53,248
Mr. Shaffer's coffee?
sandwich? no thanks

721
00:42:53,321 --> 00:42:55,585
I didn't mean it
until your work is interrupted

722
00:42:55,690 --> 00:42:58,318
how is my wife That's it
I came to see you

723
00:42:58,426 --> 00:43:00,440
shoot
good

724
00:43:00,528 --> 00:43:03,054
Nora, do I want you to come?
Well, of course not.

725
00:43:03,147 --> 00:43:05,309
I thought we could -

726
00:43:05,383 --> 00:43:07,294
Well, it's quite personal.
Mr. Hutcheson

727
00:43:07,418 --> 00:43:11,571
As far as my wife is concerned,
I hope it is not too personal

728
00:43:11,622 --> 00:43:14,023
- You are making it
Very unhappy - do you want me?

729
00:43:14,142 --> 00:43:18,420
Oh Lugerman I want a report on everyone
Rienzi's investments, legal, etc.

730
00:43:18,479 --> 00:43:21,574
Shell companies, everything. real
Real estate, production, investment-

731
00:43:21,682 --> 00:43:23,605
Dig as much as you can.
Do you have a starting point?

732
00:43:23,668 --> 00:43:26,888
Try tax reports. Charlie in
The governor may help you.

733
00:43:27,004 --> 00:43:28,881
right
Complete it.

734
00:43:31,642 --> 00:43:35,317
So I am making it
Unhappy Mr. Shaffer?

735
00:43:35,429 --> 00:43:38,046
Leave him alone, you are confusing
He makes her feel guilty.

736
00:43:38,149 --> 00:43:40,060
his responsibility
It's over for you

737
00:43:40,168 --> 00:43:43,103
So why are you here? I am just
Trying to do the best for Nora.

738
00:43:43,204 --> 00:43:46,310
Well, it's not only ridiculous, but
Insulting you don't have that much reward

739
00:43:46,424 --> 00:43:48,506
Ed, here I am
oh sorry

740
00:43:48,609 --> 00:43:51,442
what do you have

741
00:43:51,512 --> 00:43:53,423
Sally bought some
Government bonds when?

742
00:43:53,548 --> 00:43:55,448
five months ago
Sally or Rinzi?

743
00:43:55,566 --> 00:43:57,921
In his name worth 40,000 and
Little was done in this hour,

744
00:43:57,985 --> 00:44:00,568
But we have a checkup that works
In any bank for savings accounts.

745
00:44:00,688 --> 00:44:02,565
Safe deposit box?
that too

746
00:44:02,707 --> 00:44:04,550
This is all we have.
ok

747
00:44:04,659 --> 00:44:06,627
Look here, Frank

748
00:44:06,694 --> 00:44:09,493
Sally as a high school girl, model
For Wharton Department Store,

749
00:44:09,564 --> 00:44:13,410
show girl, kept girl,
The missing part, the river

750
00:44:13,518 --> 00:44:16,738
Now if we can connect this hole between the two
Wharton and River Department Store,

751
00:44:16,854 --> 00:44:19,118
Fill it with Rienzi-

752
00:44:19,223 --> 00:44:22,090
Goodbye Mr. Shaffer.
I can't wish you well.

753
00:44:22,160 --> 00:44:24,936
You know how it is. there is something
You should know, Mr. Hutcheson.

754
00:44:25,012 --> 00:44:27,697
yes
Jim Cleary on one.

755
00:44:27,798 --> 00:44:30,916
Yes, Jim? Me and Nora
Tomorrow is the wedding night

756
00:44:31,035 --> 00:44:33,641
Ed? Ed!

757
00:44:33,738 --> 00:44:37,800
I thought it would be better not to delay
You already know how it is.

758
00:44:39,777 --> 00:44:42,257
- Ed?
- Yes, yes. go ahead

759
00:44:42,330 --> 00:44:45,049
Here it is, just what
You've been looking for it

760
00:44:45,149 --> 00:44:47,629
Yes, Rinzi is your son.
good

761
00:44:47,702 --> 00:44:49,807
Showgirl in a musical
Produced by Al Murray

762
00:44:49,921 --> 00:44:53,425
The show was sponsored by Rienzi
More than three years ago Frank

763
00:44:53,541 --> 00:44:57,671
Oh, this is the only Rienzi show
supported He insisted that Sally attend.

764
00:44:57,745 --> 00:45:00,373
I'm with Al Murray now.

765
00:45:00,448 --> 00:45:04,282
He says Rinzi was sending a car
Every night after the show for him.

766
00:45:04,402 --> 00:45:06,302
keep it
yes

767
00:45:06,404 --> 00:45:09,499
Change this call to rewrite. you
Do you hear that, Clary? ok yes yes

768
00:45:09,607 --> 00:45:11,803
Oh, Frank.

769
00:45:11,876 --> 00:45:14,561
As for Willebrand's story, oh,
Kill the section about Wharton

770
00:45:14,679 --> 00:45:16,716
Use Cleary's story
For the lead of all.

771
00:45:16,781 --> 00:45:19,170
Throw it as a year.
no nudity

772
00:45:25,039 --> 00:45:27,553
Miss Bardolar?
yes sir

773
00:45:27,625 --> 00:45:29,605
I want a full check
As for Louis Schaefer,

774
00:45:29,677 --> 00:45:32,396
Runs the ally
Advertising agency

775
00:45:32,496 --> 00:45:35,295
Shaffer.
yes sir

776
00:45:35,383 --> 00:45:37,750
yes sir
Anything from Thompson yet?

777
00:45:37,885 --> 00:45:39,785
no sir

778
00:45:39,854 --> 00:45:43,495
*

779
00:45:51,399 --> 00:45:53,948
Mr. Schmidt?

780
00:45:58,689 --> 00:46:01,397
Mr. Schmidt?

781
00:46:06,948 --> 00:46:08,814
don't move
I just want to -

782
00:46:08,933 --> 00:46:10,822
shut up

783
00:46:14,956 --> 00:46:16,811
take off your hat

784
00:46:20,428 --> 00:46:23,034
sit down
No, there

785
00:46:26,667 --> 00:46:28,351
Put your hands on the table

786
00:46:33,007 --> 00:46:35,442
Calm down, Herman
I am here to help you.

787
00:46:35,509 --> 00:46:37,773
who is with you
no one

788
00:46:39,580 --> 00:46:41,548
what is earth

789
00:46:41,615 --> 00:46:44,550
My name is Thompson.
Correspondent, sports, for the day-

790
00:46:44,635 --> 00:46:46,615
Don't do it!

791
00:46:48,589 --> 00:46:50,626
Exercise, huh?

792
00:46:52,543 --> 00:46:54,352
What did you write today?

793
00:47:00,001 --> 00:47:03,574
"The problem of television
Next season's baseball games...

794
00:47:03,688 --> 00:47:07,420
It was discussed in a heated meeting
"Yesterday's Hot Stove League"-

795
00:47:12,463 --> 00:47:14,431
what do you want

796
00:47:14,498 --> 00:47:16,512
There is no problem
Abandon that thing?

797
00:47:16,584 --> 00:47:18,530
how did you find me

798
00:47:18,636 --> 00:47:20,764
You know a lot of people
In the fighting game

799
00:47:20,871 --> 00:47:23,340
They are kind to me.
I collected a few

800
00:47:23,441 --> 00:47:26,081
very good get to it

801
00:47:29,930 --> 00:47:32,604
Why Rinzi...
kill your sister

802
00:47:34,085 --> 00:47:35,871
does he

803
00:47:37,521 --> 00:47:41,617
After whom are you afraid?
Herman? Why the hideout?

804
00:47:41,675 --> 00:47:43,712
This will get you nowhere.

805
00:47:43,794 --> 00:47:47,765
I called your address
Paper They know I'm here.

806
00:47:47,832 --> 00:47:50,346
until the next edition,
Rinzi will know where you are.

807
00:47:55,022 --> 00:47:57,411
We are your only chance, Herman

808
00:47:57,541 --> 00:47:59,578
Let me take you to the newspaper
And you will be safe

809
00:48:01,796 --> 00:48:03,696
sooner or later
Rienzi will reach you,

810
00:48:03,764 --> 00:48:05,778
And you wind up
In the morgue next to Sally

811
00:48:09,336 --> 00:48:12,374
As long as Rinzi is free,
You are a dead pigeon

812
00:48:15,843 --> 00:48:18,232
take it easy

813
00:48:18,345 --> 00:48:21,758
Rinzi will not receive his copy of it
Day with your address until morning.

814
00:48:37,264 --> 00:48:40,165
I have read carefully
The last will...

815
00:48:40,267 --> 00:48:41,951
of the deceased
John Garrison

816
00:48:42,036 --> 00:48:44,755
I don't find anything in it
To avoid selling...

817
00:48:44,855 --> 00:48:47,472
From publishing companies
known as day

818
00:48:47,575 --> 00:48:50,761
Your honor, Mrs. Garrison, wife
The deceased and one of the heirs

819
00:48:50,895 --> 00:48:54,718
I want to address
Miss Garrison's court?

820
00:48:54,799 --> 00:48:58,429
Sir, I object to the sale
This article to Mr. White.

821
00:48:58,502 --> 00:49:00,846
- Your honor
Mrs. Garrison has agreed-

822
00:49:00,955 --> 00:49:04,562
But this request was for sale
Signed by you, Mrs. Garrison.

823
00:49:04,625 --> 00:49:06,605
I have changed my mind

824
00:49:06,677 --> 00:49:09,396
Mrs. Garrison has daughters
No, and they constitute the majority.

825
00:49:09,497 --> 00:49:12,273
My husband did not wish
This paper be sold to Mr. White.

826
00:49:12,383 --> 00:49:15,250
- How do you know? - Your honor
I object to cross-examination...

827
00:49:15,386 --> 00:49:17,423
to witness
has completed his statement.

828
00:49:17,505 --> 00:49:20,122
You knew the paper
It was sold to Mr. White.

829
00:49:20,191 --> 00:49:23,013
But I didn't know it was going
due to abrasion,

830
00:49:23,077 --> 00:49:26,331
That will be if
This contract has been approved.

831
00:49:26,397 --> 00:49:29,981
What will happen to this newspaper?
SOLD No worries here at all.

832
00:49:30,050 --> 00:49:32,030
Is Mr. Crane a lawyer?
And the judge?

833
00:49:32,102 --> 00:49:35,174
This is a cheap display
Excitement and conspiracy

834
00:49:35,272 --> 00:49:38,845
- Do other heirs want to reconsider?
- No, sir

835
00:49:38,926 --> 00:49:41,167
Is everything going to be okay?
Mr. Crane,

836
00:49:41,262 --> 00:49:43,390
If they answer
For themselves?

837
00:49:46,133 --> 00:49:49,728
Mrs. Alice Garrison Courtney.

838
00:49:49,837 --> 00:49:53,057
Do you still want to sell?
yes sir

839
00:49:53,123 --> 00:49:57,344
Mrs. Catherine Garrison Gray.

840
00:49:57,461 --> 00:49:59,850
yes sir

841
00:50:01,482 --> 00:50:04,486
in that case,
The paper may be sold

842
00:50:04,602 --> 00:50:06,991
- So I will buy it
A contract already exists.

843
00:50:07,054 --> 00:50:09,637
But, your honor, Miss Garrison
Purchase priority

844
00:50:09,740 --> 00:50:13,062
I second Mr. White's suggestion. your honor,
I can not see the interests of my client

845
00:50:13,177 --> 00:50:15,976
I don't know why you should disagree
To my daughters who receive more money.

846
00:50:16,096 --> 00:50:18,030
This is what they sell
Out for, isn't it? money?

847
00:50:18,148 --> 00:50:19,923
Is the consultant
would you please step here

848
00:50:23,571 --> 00:50:26,893
You cannot do this. i can
I want, and I go.

849
00:50:27,007 --> 00:50:28,918
What would be the use?

850
00:50:28,993 --> 00:50:31,519
You will be glad to know that
Stupidity is not hereditary

851
00:50:31,579 --> 00:50:33,547
You have earned it
All alone

852
00:50:33,664 --> 00:50:35,746
you are making us
They look like idiots

853
00:50:35,849 --> 00:50:38,546
good
What changed your mind?

854
00:50:38,669 --> 00:50:41,536
Have you seen today's newspaper?
And yesterday?

855
00:50:41,639 --> 00:50:46,839
Loyalty changed my mind, a principle
Clearly absent in the current generation.

856
00:50:46,911 --> 00:50:48,891
you have no money
To buy paper

857
00:50:48,963 --> 00:50:52,001
T will get it.
you are crazy

858
00:50:52,116 --> 00:50:57,031
Not just shame shame for
Me, for you and for your father

859
00:50:57,137 --> 00:50:59,981
I'm not going
Let this paper die

860
00:51:00,040 --> 00:51:03,840
If it drives me crazy,
I am good and crazy.

861
00:51:03,911 --> 00:51:05,788
ok

862
00:51:07,765 --> 00:51:12,976
I must have needed time
Consider Ms. Garrison's request.

863
00:51:13,087 --> 00:51:16,045
The consultant will be notified
When will this court reconvene?

864
00:51:16,123 --> 00:51:18,262
sir
Mr. White?

865
00:51:18,359 --> 00:51:21,943
Any delay even 24 hours
It will destroy the value of the day

866
00:51:22,062 --> 00:51:26,033
People don't buy a dead person
Paper or advertise in it.

867
00:51:26,150 --> 00:51:28,881
Now the staff of the day
It will be soulless

868
00:51:28,986 --> 00:51:31,785
No newspaper can work
Under this disability

869
00:51:31,872 --> 00:51:34,102
Thank you Mr. Sefid.

870
00:51:34,208 --> 00:51:38,133
However,
I have to keep the decision

871
00:51:38,245 --> 00:51:43,160
But ... if the current high standard
Journalism slackens by the day.

872
00:51:43,267 --> 00:51:47,488
or any negligent act threatens
The welfare of this newspaper

873
00:51:47,554 --> 00:51:50,649
I will have to
For immediate decision making...

874
00:51:50,758 --> 00:51:52,795
According to the current contract

875
00:51:58,565 --> 00:52:00,795
Mr. Hutcheson? My name is Hansen. yes

876
00:52:00,918 --> 00:52:04,582
I am Mr. Rinzi's lawyer.
He is waiting to see you in his car.

877
00:52:04,755 --> 00:52:06,541
why
This is personal work.

878
00:52:07,958 --> 00:52:10,484
a ride?
No sir, a drive

879
00:52:17,618 --> 00:52:19,427
how are you
Mr. Hutcheson?

880
00:52:25,376 --> 00:52:28,528
Shall I lift you somewhere?
why

881
00:52:28,595 --> 00:52:32,338
I am a social type. they are
It is waiting for me in my office

882
00:52:33,867 --> 00:52:36,814
ok lippy
ok what

883
00:52:36,887 --> 00:52:40,858
Just ok, I wondered who and
How can you achieve this?

884
00:52:40,958 --> 00:52:44,303
yes Yes, I expected it
Something a little more poetic

885
00:52:45,412 --> 00:52:47,961
a drink?

886
00:52:48,065 --> 00:52:50,261
Now that's pretty poetic.
what will happen

887
00:52:50,384 --> 00:52:52,614
nothing
Are you not a drinking man?

888
00:52:52,720 --> 00:52:54,950
No, not in an armored car.

889
00:52:56,040 --> 00:52:58,543
i think i love you
why

890
00:52:58,609 --> 00:53:01,920
Imagination I love a man
with imagination

891
00:53:01,995 --> 00:53:03,941
You are a good journalist.
they say

892
00:53:04,048 --> 00:53:05,959
you are not bad
In your business or

893
00:53:06,066 --> 00:53:09,092
You won two Pulitzer Prizes.
they say Are they worth a lot?

894
00:53:09,153 --> 00:53:11,736
Cash, about $500 each.

895
00:53:11,822 --> 00:53:14,792
Your kind of imagination
It is worth more, I agree

896
00:53:14,858 --> 00:53:18,374
But they say you are a hot head.
Who are "they"?

897
00:53:18,479 --> 00:53:22,609
friends
I found friends everywhere.

898
00:53:22,733 --> 00:53:24,599
I want for you
be my friend

899
00:53:24,651 --> 00:53:26,597
I found a friend.
not like me

900
00:53:26,720 --> 00:53:29,337
Is this a suggestion?
Or a suggestion?

901
00:53:29,440 --> 00:53:32,944
What do you have against me?
you are not my type

902
00:53:33,060 --> 00:53:36,860
you met me before
do business with me

903
00:53:36,914 --> 00:53:38,791
Well, maybe you got it
Misconception of me

904
00:53:38,916 --> 00:53:41,169
what kind of impression
would you like me to have

905
00:53:44,037 --> 00:53:46,881
My family reads newspapers.

906
00:53:46,990 --> 00:53:48,856
not good
What you print

907
00:53:48,959 --> 00:53:53,874
I have a good family sometimes
I would like you to meet them.

908
00:53:53,947 --> 00:53:57,269
No use unless they are
The ones that almost killed Burroughs.

909
00:53:57,384 --> 00:54:00,854
- Nest?
- They say never beat a reporter.

910
00:54:00,938 --> 00:54:03,714
It's like killing a cop
They say they are on duty.

911
00:54:03,774 --> 00:54:07,324
Never throw girls in the river,
They say with clothes or without clothes.

912
00:54:07,428 --> 00:54:09,806
what should i do
With reporters or girls?

913
00:54:09,880 --> 00:54:13,475
- I work in cement and contracting.
- Kapon was in the insurance.

914
00:54:13,584 --> 00:54:16,133
you have a sense of humor
Friend, why don't you laugh?

915
00:54:16,203 --> 00:54:19,298
- Very funny.
- Tomorrow's newspaper will be funnier.

916
00:54:23,577 --> 00:54:26,763
Ah this is Rienzi
I would like to see

917
00:54:26,830 --> 00:54:28,810
Do you start shooting from here?

918
00:54:28,882 --> 00:54:30,987
What are you going to be?
Little Tin God?

919
00:54:31,051 --> 00:54:33,782
Do you want to save the world?
Hero or something?

920
00:54:33,854 --> 00:54:36,960
There is only one type
the dead

921
00:54:37,090 --> 00:54:40,082
Show me a martyr, I will leave you
4- To 1 him wind of money.

922
00:54:40,144 --> 00:54:42,795
My lawyer says
I can sue you for this.

923
00:54:42,863 --> 00:54:47,175
well what are you doing
Doing has already been tried.

924
00:54:47,301 --> 00:54:50,009
No one could ever nail it.

925
00:54:50,120 --> 00:54:52,316
Then, you got it
Something to worry about

926
00:55:00,097 --> 00:55:03,226
Thanks for the elevator
I can't say I enjoyed it.

927
00:55:03,333 --> 00:55:06,291
Police, tax officials,
Politicians, citizens' committees -

928
00:55:06,370 --> 00:55:08,759
They all took an angle.
what is yours Name it.

929
00:55:08,872 --> 00:55:11,671
what do you want My awards
They are worth more than the Pulitzer

930
00:55:11,742 --> 00:55:15,030
i know I took a look
In Sally's fur coat.

931
00:55:20,584 --> 00:55:23,087
Wasn't this Herman Schmidt?
just arrived

932
00:55:23,187 --> 00:55:25,986
yes

933
00:55:34,515 --> 00:55:37,519
ok from the beginning

934
00:55:37,618 --> 00:55:39,529
First, let's look at the money.

935
00:55:39,636 --> 00:55:42,662
He said you will pay
For the story

936
00:55:44,842 --> 00:55:46,674
big five

937
00:55:48,729 --> 00:55:51,915
1000 dollars
How far does this take me?

938
00:55:51,982 --> 00:55:56,101
Abroad, after you
to testify against Rinzi. yes or no

939
00:55:56,220 --> 00:56:00,657
Well, he said you protect me. these days,
Accommodation in prison is difficult.

940
00:56:00,724 --> 00:56:04,490
However, I will use my influence.

941
00:56:04,611 --> 00:56:08,525
well
very good

942
00:56:08,649 --> 00:56:11,653
Get some sleep and be on your way
Outside, ask them to send $1,000.

943
00:56:11,718 --> 00:56:13,755
In cash!
in cash

944
00:56:16,206 --> 00:56:18,755
Well, you got the floor.

945
00:56:23,664 --> 00:56:27,589
Where do you want me to go?
should i start Sally and Rinzi

946
00:56:27,651 --> 00:56:29,597
Well, they loved each other.

947
00:56:29,720 --> 00:56:32,394
did you like
Well, you know

948
00:56:32,489 --> 00:56:36,380
Rinzi pay his bills? what else

949
00:56:36,460 --> 00:56:40,067
For everything?
He was worth it.

950
00:56:40,180 --> 00:56:42,114
family pride

951
00:56:42,199 --> 00:56:44,213
entered
for the apartment,

952
00:56:44,268 --> 00:56:48,364
His fur coat is some cheap
Jewelry, maybe his car too.

953
00:56:48,472 --> 00:56:52,750
But he bought $40,000 a year
Government bonds in his name

954
00:56:52,826 --> 00:56:54,737
Rienzi paid for it?

955
00:56:55,963 --> 00:56:57,863
I guess so.

956
00:56:57,931 --> 00:57:01,845
You're a liar Sally used $200,000 a year
Rinzi gave it to him to hold.

957
00:57:01,952 --> 00:57:03,863
What $200,000?

958
00:57:03,921 --> 00:57:06,447
Why would a boy leave it?
Some kind of scratch? hot money

959
00:57:06,556 --> 00:57:09,742
- Shahr Bank says your sister has rented a safety deposit box.
- He left it a month ago.

960
00:57:09,826 --> 00:57:12,386
- On the same day he moved
From his apartment - why?

961
00:57:15,365 --> 00:57:18,551
very good This is true. he gave
Money to keep for him

962
00:57:18,669 --> 00:57:22,003
When he got it back, he
He was afraid to rest.

963
00:57:22,105 --> 00:57:25,882
He said until he
He kept the cash... he was sticking.

964
00:57:28,395 --> 00:57:30,272
It didn't happen like that

965
00:57:33,667 --> 00:57:35,522
I don't feel very well.

966
00:57:42,542 --> 00:57:46,069
Type this, more to come. yes Mrs
The garrison wants to see you in the dome.

967
00:57:46,179 --> 00:57:47,977
Well, stop him.
That's the $1,000 you wanted.

968
00:57:48,048 --> 00:57:50,028
Oh yeah

969
00:57:51,568 --> 00:57:53,707
Oh, Hal, grab your camera
There yes sir

970
00:57:53,820 --> 00:57:55,948
what did you say
Are you married my dear?

971
00:57:56,023 --> 00:57:58,287
clear -
later baby

972
00:57:58,392 --> 00:58:01,225
Take the governor. Ask him if
He will empanel a grand jury...

973
00:58:01,345 --> 00:58:03,245
to review
last election

974
00:58:03,347 --> 00:58:05,293
Some names
that will come -

975
00:58:05,399 --> 00:58:08,107
We supported several people for office. A
The newspaper has no political party

976
00:58:08,218 --> 00:58:10,528
We support men for office -
Some good, some bad.

977
00:58:10,604 --> 00:58:13,016
Mr. Hutcheson,
Miss Wilbrandt is here.

978
00:58:13,073 --> 00:58:16,304
If the governor does not act, take it
Chairman of the State Senate Committee

979
00:58:17,310 --> 00:58:19,187
yes Hutcheson

980
00:58:20,831 --> 00:58:22,742
oh hold it

981
00:58:22,849 --> 00:58:24,760
Oh, go on, Willbrandt.

982
00:58:26,687 --> 00:58:28,894
sally how about him

983
00:58:30,474 --> 00:58:33,978
Where did he move to?
what hotel

984
00:58:34,044 --> 00:58:35,853
when did you understand
Did Sally die?

985
00:58:35,946 --> 00:58:37,937
Well, I read
Put it in paper

986
00:58:38,015 --> 00:58:39,904
He had been dead for three days
Before the newspapers get it.

987
00:58:40,017 --> 00:58:42,566
Your mother says you left the house
Last Saturday and did not return.

988
00:58:42,636 --> 00:58:44,547
Sally was killed in it
That night, so what?

989
00:58:44,654 --> 00:58:47,294
I often leave the house for
Weeks sometimes but not to hide.

990
00:58:47,374 --> 00:58:50,344
Why are you afraid of Rinzi? you knew
He was going to Sally's place last Saturday.

991
00:58:50,444 --> 00:58:54,085
I didn't even know where it was
He lived, hold him, shoot him.

992
00:58:56,483 --> 00:58:59,566
Sally was transferred from there
His apartment on Afra Street...

993
00:58:59,636 --> 00:59:02,628
by Intercity Storage Company
Four weeks ago...

994
00:59:02,739 --> 00:59:06,983
to the Leroy Hotel, listed below
Bessie Schmidt's name

995
00:59:07,060 --> 00:59:10,803
He never left his room
your mother and you

996
00:59:10,864 --> 00:59:13,322
you were there
Saturday night

997
00:59:13,400 --> 00:59:16,142
I don't remember, maybe me
was why did you go there

998
00:59:16,253 --> 00:59:18,187
Well, I, uh-

999
00:59:20,040 --> 00:59:22,759
He called me. yes
it is true He called me!

1000
00:59:22,859 --> 00:59:26,124
From the table, the table
Secretary 1: .M.

1001
00:59:26,246 --> 00:59:29,432
He may be wrong!

1002
00:59:29,549 --> 00:59:33,349
yes it is true

1003
00:59:33,403 --> 00:59:37,362
somewhere out there
Rinzi is waiting for you

1004
00:59:37,441 --> 00:59:40,729
- Either you are telling the truth or I will come back
You loose - no money, no protection.

1005
00:59:43,380 --> 00:59:45,303
ok

1006
00:59:45,415 --> 00:59:48,362
take it out
wait

1007
00:59:49,486 --> 00:59:52,171
Rinzi wanted his money.

1008
00:59:53,774 --> 00:59:55,720
They could not understand
where he lived

1009
00:59:55,792 --> 00:59:57,988
So you showed them
Why did you do this?

1010
00:59:58,061 --> 01:00:01,156
What did Rinzi promise?
Well, he took my job.

1011
01:00:01,231 --> 01:00:04,201
I owed him some money.
I could not pay him.

1012
01:00:04,267 --> 01:00:06,599
he did a favor
It squares us.

1013
01:00:06,670 --> 01:00:09,310
All you had to do was leave
Finger on your sister

1014
01:00:09,422 --> 01:00:11,982
I didn't know what they were
They were going to do it, I swear.

1015
01:00:12,092 --> 01:00:13,992
who went with you Rinzy?
I went alone

1016
01:00:14,111 --> 01:00:16,853
So he is not afraid
They came later.

1017
01:00:16,963 --> 01:00:19,955
All you did was open the door for him
That's what they are. Who are "they"?

1018
01:00:20,066 --> 01:00:23,195
Left Smith, Frank White and
Baby Jones they belong to Rienzi?

1019
01:00:23,303 --> 01:00:25,886
Except white. He hires.
what next

1020
01:00:25,989 --> 01:00:29,300
Well, they asked him
for money

1021
01:00:29,376 --> 01:00:34,314
he didn't give
Too white, hit him.

1022
01:00:34,381 --> 01:00:37,692
then left
He started screaming.

1023
01:00:37,751 --> 01:00:39,537
He shouted to me
To help him

1024
01:00:41,638 --> 01:00:45,859
Then he shut her mouth with whiteness.

1025
01:00:45,959 --> 01:00:50,647
i was scared I could not see what
were doing I ran to the bathroom

1026
01:00:52,332 --> 01:00:56,348
I got out of there
That's all I know. honestly

1027
01:00:56,419 --> 01:00:59,628
yes Miss Garrison still
What should I tell him while waiting?

1028
01:00:59,689 --> 01:01:01,441
I will be right

1029
01:01:02,859 --> 01:01:05,351
The word was out
Rinzi wanted me.

1030
01:01:05,412 --> 01:01:07,323
they were afraid
I was supposed to read

1031
01:01:07,447 --> 01:01:10,087
If I stay for trial,
They will get to me

1032
01:01:10,167 --> 01:01:12,113
You don't know them.
In prison, no matter where-

1033
01:01:12,219 --> 01:01:14,153
As soon as it is typed,
Ask him to sign

1034
01:01:14,271 --> 01:01:16,114
We will not have time
To bring all this in Bulldog.

1035
01:01:16,173 --> 01:01:18,471
We will receive the text
Statement in the second edition

1036
01:01:18,592 --> 01:01:21,095
count count!

1037
01:01:21,194 --> 01:01:22,958
And incense this office.

1038
01:01:31,922 --> 01:01:34,220
Mr. Hutcheson? About Louis Shaffer
- Oh, yeah

1039
01:01:34,341 --> 01:01:36,378
That information
you asked oh huh?

1040
01:01:36,476 --> 01:01:38,934
Oh, Louis Schaeffer.
42 years old, born in Baltimore,

1041
01:01:39,045 --> 01:01:42,777
Only child of John and Harriet
Shaffer of chemical wealth.

1042
01:01:42,883 --> 01:01:44,999
Was he married before?
no sir

1043
01:01:45,085 --> 01:01:48,806
Have you ever pinched? Did he ever
was arrested No record, if he was.

1044
01:01:48,905 --> 01:01:51,738
alcoholic? Scammer?

1045
01:01:51,808 --> 01:01:54,778
Maybe he is a devil.
You know, it looked like one

1046
01:01:54,844 --> 01:01:57,461
Check his army record?
Maybe he is a spy.

1047
01:01:57,547 --> 01:02:00,289
I got the silver star
and purple heart

1048
01:02:00,350 --> 01:02:03,832
This is a corrupt report.
yes sir

1049
01:02:03,954 --> 01:02:06,434
Eddie, two things

1050
01:02:06,539 --> 01:02:10,191
Rinzi launched his defamation suit. we were
It was served with papers half an hour ago.

1051
01:02:10,260 --> 01:02:13,730
Second? Judge McKay shakes hands
A decision tonight at 9:00.

1052
01:02:13,847 --> 01:02:16,782
Because of the defamation lawsuit? we will
Be ready for him and one more thing,

1053
01:02:16,883 --> 01:02:19,944
That one percent was you
We promised when we sold the paper?

1054
01:02:20,053 --> 01:02:21,964
Well, Alice and the kitten
They have taken it back.

1055
01:02:22,072 --> 01:02:23,983
What took them so long?
Oh yeah

1056
01:02:24,057 --> 01:02:25,946
You were wonderful today my dear

1057
01:02:26,042 --> 01:02:28,522
Oh Mr. Blake and Mr. Green, this
It is Mr. Hutcheson. how about you

1058
01:02:28,628 --> 01:02:30,665
how about you
how are you sir

1059
01:02:30,780 --> 01:02:34,239
Their banking company has offered us a loan
Extra money to meet Mr. White's offer.

1060
01:02:34,301 --> 01:02:36,747
Awaiting some facts,
Of course, of course.

1061
01:02:36,870 --> 01:02:39,669
Try to remember Rinzi accurately
The words when he asked you...

1062
01:02:39,773 --> 01:02:41,684
To bring three hoods
To Sally's hotel room

1063
01:02:41,791 --> 01:02:43,668
We can get it -

1064
01:02:43,743 --> 01:02:46,292
Here is the verdict
For Hermann Schmidt

1065
01:02:46,396 --> 01:02:49,070
We are not done yet
Ask him to sign the statement.

1066
01:02:49,149 --> 01:02:52,540
It only takes a few minutes. come forward
Schmidt, you have no right to comment

1067
01:02:52,652 --> 01:02:54,654
As long as one
Police state, we have. I'm sorry

1068
01:02:57,457 --> 01:03:00,063
- White!
- Shut up

1069
01:03:00,176 --> 01:03:02,178
Take him out the back way.

1070
01:03:02,279 --> 01:03:04,691
I didn't tell him anything -

1071
01:03:07,550 --> 01:03:09,723
Whitey, I didn't
Tell him anything

1072
01:03:11,554 --> 01:03:14,489
And this is not included
Higher cost of newsprint

1073
01:03:14,574 --> 01:03:18,021
how about continues
Above now, per ton is 110 dollars.

1074
01:03:18,094 --> 01:03:20,643
In 1942, it was $50 per ton.

1075
01:03:20,714 --> 01:03:24,264
It takes talent to get news, think
Through, write it and support it with research.

1076
01:03:24,384 --> 01:03:26,967
no good report
you have no paper

1077
01:03:27,070 --> 01:03:30,517
That extra four percent—
It may be dangerous

1078
01:03:30,573 --> 01:03:34,692
A free press, sir, like one
Free life is always in danger.

1079
01:03:37,113 --> 01:03:39,309
That's why I hid, because
I knew someone would catch me

1080
01:03:39,382 --> 01:03:41,840
Listen, you have to believe me
Oh, shut up

1081
01:03:41,901 --> 01:03:43,335
you believe me
not you

1082
01:04:17,487 --> 01:04:20,775
I like the suggestion.

1083
01:04:20,840 --> 01:04:24,265
- With the exception of 1 hour of anticipated complications,
I think - Ed, it's for you.

1084
01:04:26,346 --> 01:04:28,030
yes

1085
01:04:51,104 --> 01:04:53,721
Explain to him what it is
which is similar to the so-called police.

1086
01:04:53,823 --> 01:04:56,622
yes captain

1087
01:04:56,693 --> 01:04:59,833
When will the press grow up?
And stop playing detective?

1088
01:04:59,946 --> 01:05:02,233
You can't tell the difference
Between a wanderer and a cop?

1089
01:05:02,298 --> 01:05:04,596
in this city? yes sir

1090
01:05:04,667 --> 01:05:08,592
captain

1091
01:05:08,671 --> 01:05:10,651
Did you get the address?

1092
01:05:10,790 --> 01:05:12,667
Now see Mrs. Garrison
He gets home well

1093
01:05:12,776 --> 01:05:14,687
What about Schmidt's confession?
Are we running away anyway?

1094
01:05:14,794 --> 01:05:18,458
Without his signature? that
The judge will definitely shut us down.

1095
01:05:20,600 --> 01:05:22,534
You ruined it

1096
01:05:22,602 --> 01:05:25,173
I told you
I don't want any violence

1097
01:05:25,288 --> 01:05:27,222
Not yet anyway

1098
01:05:27,340 --> 01:05:30,048
There is a time and a place for that
This is kind of stupid.

1099
01:05:32,912 --> 01:05:36,769
no
Escape from what?

1100
01:05:36,883 --> 01:05:39,432
I will talk to them
Myself, personally

1101
01:05:39,502 --> 01:05:42,415
Bring them down here
To my office, all of them.

1102
01:05:42,472 --> 01:05:46,352
Sure, now. right now
so are you

1103
01:05:46,476 --> 01:05:49,969
And find old Sally, Mrs. Schmidt.
Bring him in. I want to talk to him.

1104
01:05:50,079 --> 01:05:52,593
and this time,
don't spoil it

1105
01:05:56,886 --> 01:06:00,459
No paper has ever done better.
Faster and more accurate work

1106
01:06:00,540 --> 01:06:05,364
All we needed was this one
A little evidence, and we had it.

1107
01:06:05,478 --> 01:06:08,755
Why do you think we hung it up?
All about Rienzi?

1108
01:06:08,815 --> 01:06:12,410
Because we were emotional about it
A dead girl and a mink coat? no

1109
01:06:12,485 --> 01:06:17,059
No, we had a big thing.
It is big enough to save our neck.

1110
01:06:17,123 --> 01:06:20,707
Rienzi in the liquor business
- The financial department discovered that one.

1111
01:06:20,777 --> 01:06:23,144
Distributed for
Two of the biggest brand names

1112
01:06:23,246 --> 01:06:26,398
Rinzi's brother runs
A wire service for match results.

1113
01:06:26,466 --> 01:06:31,996
Shipping, loan agency for
Bookstores, real estate, hotels, night clubs.

1114
01:06:32,071 --> 01:06:34,642
slot machines,
etc., etc.

1115
01:06:34,707 --> 01:06:39,975
Years ago, my husband tried one
A story like this about a man just like Rinzi.

1116
01:06:40,079 --> 01:06:43,617
No, I thought with such a story
I mean, they never shut us down.

1117
01:06:44,784 --> 01:06:47,435
good

1118
01:06:47,504 --> 01:06:50,189
We showed them how real they are
Newspaper can work.

1119
01:06:50,290 --> 01:06:53,601
and now,
we are licked baby

1120
01:06:53,676 --> 01:06:55,462
Check out this thread.
do you

1121
01:06:58,314 --> 01:07:03,024
My husband always said if this one
Worth fighting, it didn't matter who won.

1122
01:07:03,136 --> 01:07:05,173
A good amount was sure
To get out of it

1123
01:07:08,258 --> 01:07:10,647
Is that Rinzi wine?
Oh yeah

1124
01:07:10,760 --> 01:07:13,821
very good
the best

1125
01:07:15,048 --> 01:07:17,847
Well, you are very girly
yes

1126
01:07:17,951 --> 01:07:20,431
Guess they made them different
in your day

1127
01:07:20,537 --> 01:07:23,063
yes
more durable

1128
01:07:23,189 --> 01:07:25,408
More flexible

1129
01:07:25,508 --> 01:07:30,582
Girls have things these days, though
They are fragile, they break more easily.

1130
01:07:30,663 --> 01:07:32,574
Don't roll with the punches.

1131
01:07:32,682 --> 01:07:35,196
Abundant bile
And without courage

1132
01:07:36,869 --> 01:07:40,385
Do you mean Nora?
Oh, I mean Nora

1133
01:07:40,490 --> 01:07:45,394
Now there will be a respectful silence
While we feel sorry for ourselves.

1134
01:07:45,461 --> 01:07:48,761
Well, he was not right
Go out, why not?

1135
01:07:48,881 --> 01:07:51,487
Well, because.
Because it upset you

1136
01:07:51,601 --> 01:07:53,501
Because she is my wife

1137
01:07:53,586 --> 01:07:58,092
If so, you would not have a wife
The newspaper had beautiful legs

1138
01:07:58,157 --> 01:08:01,411
Sure, sure

1139
01:08:01,494 --> 01:08:04,976
You never died
who said twice

1140
01:08:05,081 --> 01:08:07,118
You must have been beautiful
Good reason is the best.

1141
01:08:07,183 --> 01:08:10,676
The bride always likes to think
he is essential

1142
01:08:10,787 --> 01:08:13,290
Even in the morning.

1143
01:08:13,373 --> 01:08:15,671
I woke up and he was gone.

1144
01:08:15,775 --> 01:08:19,439
back to paper
To do the Lusitania story

1145
01:08:19,545 --> 01:08:21,798
I went out
Ah, but you are back

1146
01:08:21,931 --> 01:08:25,822
Two days later. He did not
Even knowing that I was gone

1147
01:08:25,918 --> 01:08:28,592
But he loved you.
with enthusiasm,

1148
01:08:28,671 --> 01:08:30,617
But between versions.

1149
01:08:30,690 --> 01:08:34,729
It was time to change his face
Journalism, struggle for reform,

1150
01:08:34,794 --> 01:08:39,129
And the crusade for a thousand lost causes
But he had no time for his family.

1151
01:08:39,198 --> 01:08:43,419
So I took my two daughters and
He left this big and beautiful tomb.

1152
01:08:43,536 --> 01:08:47,040
why did you come back
Well, we needed each other

1153
01:08:47,106 --> 01:08:49,279
It was me who did it
Although the setting

1154
01:08:49,392 --> 01:08:53,147
It wasn't Alice or Kitty
or John

1155
01:08:53,229 --> 01:08:56,199
She needed a son
To carry on paper

1156
01:08:56,299 --> 01:08:59,564
And they needed a father
Like, not the bulldog version.

1157
01:08:59,636 --> 01:09:02,219
Enter me.
spitting image

1158
01:09:04,857 --> 01:09:08,111
And what did you want?
being useful

1159
01:09:08,177 --> 01:09:10,066
good

1160
01:09:10,129 --> 01:09:12,370
to the newspapers

1161
01:09:12,482 --> 01:09:16,407
To editors like you,
A publisher's happiness

1162
01:09:19,872 --> 01:09:22,057
Don't blame Nora

1163
01:09:22,125 --> 01:09:26,483
unless he wants to come back
It won't work if he stays away -

1164
01:09:26,596 --> 01:09:29,748
I can look for a newspaper
with beautiful legs

1165
01:09:29,816 --> 01:09:32,274
The court convenes
About half an hour

1166
01:09:32,352 --> 01:09:34,332
are you going to be there
maybe

1167
01:09:37,707 --> 01:09:40,096
will you marry me
you are very old

1168
01:09:43,429 --> 01:09:45,670
You pass through the old lady
Schmidt's house? top to bottom

1169
01:09:45,748 --> 01:09:47,648
well
nothing

1170
01:09:47,767 --> 01:09:49,758
Miss Schmidt, did you find him?
not yet

1171
01:09:49,836 --> 01:09:52,168
I got someone at home
waiting for it inside and outside

1172
01:09:52,221 --> 01:09:56,636
Don't bring him here, I won't
You don't want any of your sons here

1173
01:09:56,759 --> 01:09:58,830
Now or anytime. you
understand? i understand

1174
01:09:58,895 --> 01:10:02,923
and don't call me
Here or at home, any of you!

1175
01:10:02,982 --> 01:10:05,986
It is better if we go
City for a while? no We stay where we are.

1176
01:10:06,069 --> 01:10:08,299
Suppose the jury issues an indictment?
Accuse them!

1177
01:10:08,354 --> 01:10:10,891
- Larry will take care of everything.
- try

1178
01:10:10,973 --> 01:10:15,570
it is true you try
I don't want to panic...

1179
01:10:15,678 --> 01:10:19,148
If an investigation is done
Or even a trial

1180
01:10:19,215 --> 01:10:22,025
We have been through this kind of thing
Before we are still in business

1181
01:10:22,101 --> 01:10:24,980
Our story has been published
So what on paper?

1182
01:10:25,088 --> 01:10:26,965
Tomorrow is old news.
Next week people will forget.

1183
01:10:27,023 --> 01:10:28,969
But if they continue to print?

1184
01:10:29,041 --> 01:10:31,567
They don't want to. But if they keep
We are in the news until the court,

1185
01:10:31,644 --> 01:10:34,818
- If they warm public - you
Taking care of my own end I handle the paper.

1186
01:10:34,931 --> 01:10:37,241
Hutcheson doesn't take it easy.
He has nothing.

1187
01:10:37,300 --> 01:10:39,189
With Schmidt gone,
what does he have

1188
01:10:39,252 --> 01:10:41,072
This does not stop him.
And he will not stop us!

1189
01:10:42,905 --> 01:10:44,816
Tomorrow, he won't even
Have a piece of paper

1190
01:10:44,941 --> 01:10:47,228
The courts will take it
away from him

1191
01:10:47,326 --> 01:10:51,957
And if they don't, we will
Remove him from the paper

1192
01:10:52,081 --> 01:10:54,664
Maybe they all need it
An example

1193
01:10:54,767 --> 01:10:56,508
Yes, that's what they need.

1194
01:11:01,607 --> 01:11:04,156
You better find Hutcheson
Do you want to see it?

1195
01:11:04,277 --> 01:11:06,177
no

1196
01:11:15,288 --> 01:11:18,246
Mrs. Garrison? how are you

1197
01:11:24,847 --> 01:11:26,793
please get up

1198
01:11:33,122 --> 01:11:34,965
his honor
substitute

1199
01:11:35,024 --> 01:11:36,935
Please sit down

1200
01:11:43,316 --> 01:11:45,501
I am a little worried
About him

1201
01:11:51,007 --> 01:11:54,705
Regarding buying and selling
publishing company...

1202
01:11:54,827 --> 01:11:56,955
It is mentioned here
as day-

1203
01:11:59,432 --> 01:12:03,482
I have done a thorough study
From the existing contract...

1204
01:12:03,553 --> 01:12:08,343
Between the heirs of the late John Garrison
and Lawrence White Publishing Companies.

1205
01:12:08,457 --> 01:12:12,712
I can see no reason for this
The contract should not be executed

1206
01:12:12,778 --> 01:12:17,796
Therefore, unless further evidence or
An argument is presented to change my judgment.

1207
01:12:17,900 --> 01:12:22,269
The court is ready
issue its decision.

1208
01:12:22,355 --> 01:12:25,393
Mrs. Garrison,
Do you have anything to add?

1209
01:12:25,491 --> 01:12:27,402
Do you want to say something?

1210
01:12:27,510 --> 01:12:29,444
It is not a statement, it is your honor.

1211
01:12:29,512 --> 01:12:33,847
Your honor is in front of you
Make up your mind, can I say something?

1212
01:12:33,966 --> 01:12:37,550
If your honor please, I think not
This gentleman is one of the heirs.

1213
01:12:37,620 --> 01:12:42,763
He is not here as amicus curiae and I am positive
He is not in favor of Mr. White here.

1214
01:12:42,842 --> 01:12:44,856
Who does he assume?
For representation?

1215
01:12:44,927 --> 01:12:48,056
Well, sir, I am trying
To save a newspaper

1216
01:12:48,114 --> 01:12:50,310
which is not yours
In the first place.

1217
01:12:50,433 --> 01:12:55,155
This is true. The day consists of
I don't own a big building.

1218
01:12:55,221 --> 01:13:00,216
Also includes typewriter, teletype,
Press, newspaper, ink and table.

1219
01:13:00,293 --> 01:13:03,354
I don't have them either. but
This newspaper is more than that.

1220
01:13:03,462 --> 01:13:05,851
We are all aware
What a newspaper is made of.

1221
01:13:05,915 --> 01:13:07,792
I am not so sure about this.

1222
01:13:09,569 --> 01:13:13,824
day ... more than
A building is these people.

1223
01:13:13,940 --> 01:13:17,319
These are 1500 men and women whose skills
Heart, brain and experience...

1224
01:13:17,426 --> 01:13:19,588
Make a great newspaper possible

1225
01:13:19,695 --> 01:13:22,414
We do not own a stick
Furniture in this company

1226
01:13:22,481 --> 01:13:26,361
But we together with 290,000
People reading this article,

1227
01:13:26,485 --> 01:13:28,419
Have a vital interest
In whether he lives or dies.

1228
01:13:28,554 --> 01:13:30,443
This is a lot
Irregular procedure

1229
01:13:30,506 --> 01:13:32,452
So is murder
From a newspaper!

1230
01:13:32,525 --> 01:13:34,505
You don't carry this
A little too far?

1231
01:13:34,610 --> 01:13:37,056
The death of a newspaper
Sometimes it has far-reaching effects.

1232
01:13:37,129 --> 01:13:39,325
It means your pocket book
in this case in this case,

1233
01:13:39,415 --> 01:13:41,452
It means an unfinished business
It is called Rinzi.

1234
01:13:41,567 --> 01:13:43,501
If you read that day,
You understand what I mean

1235
01:13:43,569 --> 01:13:46,106
I don't care to discuss Mr.
Rinzy. This newspaper does!

1236
01:13:46,172 --> 01:13:47,890
This is not about us
here today

1237
01:13:48,007 --> 01:13:49,907
It concerns the general public
every day

1238
01:13:50,009 --> 01:13:51,920
a newspaper,
As Mr. White agrees,

1239
01:13:51,994 --> 01:13:54,486
First, last and published
Always in the public interest

1240
01:13:54,597 --> 01:13:56,918
not yours
The only newspaper in the city

1241
01:13:56,983 --> 01:13:59,759
For now, it is alone
The newspaper is willing to expose Rinzi.

1242
01:13:59,869 --> 01:14:02,292
- Your honor
- An honest and fearless press...

1243
01:14:02,405 --> 01:14:04,669
The first is general protection
against gangsterism,

1244
01:14:04,774 --> 01:14:06,651
local or international.

1245
01:14:06,726 --> 01:14:10,868
However, Mr. Hutcheson
The surrogate's court is informal,

1246
01:14:10,963 --> 01:14:13,079
There are certain rules
and procedure

1247
01:14:13,199 --> 01:14:14,724
May we have
Now it's your decision, sir

1248
01:14:16,218 --> 01:14:20,473
As one of your 290,000 readers,
Mr. Hutcheson,

1249
01:14:20,556 --> 01:14:24,390
I rule that... you may proceed
With your statement

1250
01:14:24,493 --> 01:14:26,461
thank you sir

1251
01:14:26,579 --> 01:14:30,561
But let's try to avoid this
Make it a personal thread, please

1252
01:14:30,666 --> 01:14:33,101
Well, that's a lot of newspaper
Sir's personal matter

1253
01:14:33,219 --> 01:14:35,176
Ask people
who let us into their homes

1254
01:14:35,287 --> 01:14:38,848
I have read that day
For more than 35 years.

1255
01:14:38,958 --> 01:14:41,472
before that,
I sold it on the street.

1256
01:14:41,594 --> 01:14:44,529
However, here
We are just worried

1257
01:14:44,630 --> 01:14:47,691
With the legal aspect
Buying and selling property.

1258
01:14:47,800 --> 01:14:50,189
What will happen next?
Mr. Sefid takes possession of the ball...

1259
01:14:50,252 --> 01:14:52,232
out of
Jurisdiction of this court

1260
01:14:52,304 --> 01:14:54,443
Well, in whom
Jurisdiction is it?

1261
01:14:54,523 --> 01:14:58,949
Just a moment since when is it immoral
For someone who legally buys a newspaper?

1262
01:14:59,011 --> 01:15:04,279
I don't care if Mr. White buys and runs it
Two articles or 20 articles or 100 articles.

1263
01:15:04,383 --> 01:15:07,318
Some of the best newspapers in
This country is part of a chain.

1264
01:15:07,386 --> 01:15:09,969
But I care when he is a
The newspaper shut it down!

1265
01:15:12,925 --> 01:15:15,701
Because without competition, there is
It cannot be freedom of the press.

1266
01:15:15,811 --> 01:15:18,064
And I'm talking about it
free company, your honor,

1267
01:15:18,180 --> 01:15:22,697
Public right to a
Market of ideas, news and opinions

1268
01:15:22,768 --> 01:15:26,716
Not of a man or a leader
Or even a government.

1269
01:15:26,789 --> 01:15:29,315
i...

1270
01:15:29,375 --> 01:15:32,629
Well, I guess
That's all I have to say.

1271
01:15:35,498 --> 01:15:40,322
The existing contract is valid.
Made in good faith.

1272
01:15:41,554 --> 01:15:44,068
From tomorrow, November 14

1273
01:15:44,173 --> 01:15:48,007
Lawrence White Publications
will take control of the day.

1274
01:15:48,127 --> 01:15:49,925
The court was adjourned

1275
01:15:53,783 --> 01:15:56,502
Well, thanks for trying

1276
01:15:56,602 --> 01:16:00,140
- Another day will come
Goodbye Ed - Goodbye

1277
01:16:05,277 --> 01:16:08,247
Here you are, Mr. Hutcheson.
I have a city office.

1278
01:16:08,314 --> 01:16:10,726
Frank? it is here

1279
01:16:10,783 --> 01:16:12,877
Lead for
morning version

1280
01:16:13,002 --> 01:16:17,530
"One day after 47 years
The publication was sold last night.

1281
01:16:17,590 --> 01:16:19,695
Ed, come back here
As soon as possible

1282
01:16:19,809 --> 01:16:21,686
yes ok give it to me
by phone

1283
01:16:25,831 --> 01:16:27,868
I will be there.
five minutes

1284
01:16:29,885 --> 01:16:32,718
Do you want to say who?
Did Mrs. Schmidt kill your daughter?

1285
01:16:32,838 --> 01:16:35,751
- Was it Rinzi?
Some of his men?

1286
01:16:35,825 --> 01:16:37,919
I came to see the boss

1287
01:16:37,993 --> 01:16:40,894
Did you know your son?
Worked for Rienzi?

1288
01:16:40,963 --> 01:16:43,580
Was that a cottage?

1289
01:16:43,699 --> 01:16:46,851
do you think
Should we call the police?

1290
01:16:46,969 --> 01:16:48,903
I am worried about him.

1291
01:16:52,625 --> 01:16:55,777
The paper was sold
Write a new lead.

1292
01:17:22,087 --> 01:17:23,930
coffee

1293
01:17:25,407 --> 01:17:27,694
have you been
Is Mrs. Schmidt still at your house?

1294
01:17:29,278 --> 01:17:32,703
where have you been
I am talking to the boss

1295
01:17:37,870 --> 01:17:41,704
Mrs. Schmidt wandered off,
He is looking for you

1296
01:17:41,807 --> 01:17:44,128
He doesn't talk to anyone else

1297
01:17:44,193 --> 01:17:46,764
Mrs. Schmidt, President.

1298
01:17:46,879 --> 01:17:48,745
How are you Mrs. Schmidt?

1299
01:17:48,814 --> 01:17:51,624
Your name, please?
Hutcheson

1300
01:17:51,684 --> 01:17:53,539
I am Bessie's mother.

1301
01:17:55,788 --> 01:17:59,679
Oh, oh, about your son
I am very sorry

1302
01:17:59,792 --> 01:18:01,681
I'm not coming for that.

1303
01:18:08,968 --> 01:18:10,777
sit down please

1304
01:18:12,254 --> 01:18:14,507
here

1305
01:18:14,573 --> 01:18:19,397
Enough of me, he comes to me
And he says

1306
01:18:19,478 --> 01:18:22,675
"Here mom. You hold this.

1307
01:18:22,781 --> 01:18:26,638
Something happens to me
You don't have to worry."

1308
01:18:28,354 --> 01:18:30,265
Is this Bessie's diary?

1309
01:18:30,339 --> 01:18:35,687
He says what is happening to him
And this Mr. Rinzi.

1310
01:18:39,965 --> 01:18:43,162
yes sir Take the captain
Finley right here

1311
01:18:43,269 --> 01:18:46,011
And tell Alan we're coming
As usual, the final version

1312
01:18:46,121 --> 01:18:47,862
yes sir

1313
01:18:50,125 --> 01:18:52,059
why didn't you go
To the police, Mrs. Schmidt?

1314
01:18:52,177 --> 01:18:56,762
the police?
I don't know the police.

1315
01:18:56,832 --> 01:19:00,644
I know newspapers
This newspaper

1316
01:19:00,719 --> 01:19:03,689
for 31 years,
I know this article.

1317
01:19:03,789 --> 01:19:07,942
I am coming to America.
I wish to be a good citizen

1318
01:19:08,060 --> 01:19:11,530
How to do this?
From the newspaper

1319
01:19:11,597 --> 01:19:14,373
shows me
How to read and write

1320
01:19:14,450 --> 01:19:18,899
I'll die, don't tell me
His bad things

1321
01:19:18,954 --> 01:19:21,912
You don't show
Bad pictures of him

1322
01:19:21,991 --> 01:19:26,963
try to find...
That bothered me a lot

1323
01:19:28,881 --> 01:19:31,532
Well, I will help.

1324
01:19:31,600 --> 01:19:35,116
I think what to do
I'm going to the subway

1325
01:19:35,237 --> 01:19:39,219
I ride all day.
I think I'm coming

1326
01:19:41,110 --> 01:19:44,239
By doing this, you may
In danger, like your son

1327
01:19:44,346 --> 01:19:46,747
you are not afraid

1328
01:19:47,916 --> 01:19:49,725
Your article has no fear

1329
01:19:50,853 --> 01:19:52,742
i am not afraid

1330
01:20:04,917 --> 01:20:08,410
Hi Mrs. Hutcheson.
Or now... Mrs. Shaffer?

1331
01:20:08,520 --> 01:20:10,284
where is he
In the press room

1332
01:20:12,758 --> 01:20:15,147
Has he lost the paper yet?
yes

1333
01:20:15,260 --> 01:20:17,228
what will he do

1334
01:20:17,329 --> 01:20:20,902
Get the latest version out, and
It must be completely paper.

1335
01:20:20,983 --> 01:20:24,271
But what next? search
I think another thing

1336
01:20:24,336 --> 01:20:26,953
Mrs. Shaffer?

1337
01:20:27,089 --> 01:20:28,978
no

1338
01:20:32,094 --> 01:20:33,994
Hello Alex
This is it, huh?

1339
01:20:34,096 --> 01:20:36,656
Yeah looks like our last.

1340
01:20:49,378 --> 01:20:51,289
Telephone, Mr. Hutcheson.

1341
01:20:58,670 --> 01:21:02,049
yes World Health Organization?

1342
01:21:04,076 --> 01:21:05,987
OK, hang up.

1343
01:21:11,817 --> 01:21:14,343
- Hutcheson?
- Hello, my dear

1344
01:21:16,305 --> 01:21:20,583
how do i feel I hear ma'am
Schmidt come to see you.

1345
01:21:20,676 --> 01:21:24,294
it is true it is true

1346
01:21:24,363 --> 01:21:29,221
Here is some cash
It's yours, worth $200,000

1347
01:21:29,301 --> 01:21:31,190
Oh, and it is
One more thing

1348
01:21:35,824 --> 01:21:38,350
What diary?

1349
01:21:38,427 --> 01:21:41,943
Who can believe what?
Does the little tramp write for himself?

1350
01:21:42,047 --> 01:21:43,947
Wait a minute!
Do not hang up!

1351
01:21:44,016 --> 01:21:45,916
Here are some recommendations
For you, friend

1352
01:21:45,984 --> 01:21:48,498
Don't push your luck
fire me

1353
01:21:48,620 --> 01:21:50,486
Do not print that story

1354
01:21:50,589 --> 01:21:53,263
What is it going to be?
An order?

1355
01:21:53,342 --> 01:21:57,051
If not tonight, then tomorrow.
Maybe next week, maybe next year.

1356
01:21:57,112 --> 01:21:59,058
But sooner or later,
You get it!

1357
01:21:59,181 --> 01:22:02,913
listen to me Print it
Story, you are dead!

1358
01:22:02,985 --> 01:22:07,138
It's not just me. You must
Now every newspaper in the country should be stopped.

1359
01:22:07,206 --> 01:22:09,208
And you're not big enough
for that job

1360
01:22:09,308 --> 01:22:12,858
People like you have already tried it.
with bullets, prison, censorship,

1361
01:22:12,978 --> 01:22:16,096
But until even a newspaper
It will print the truth, you're done.

1362
01:22:16,198 --> 01:22:19,896
Don't give me that fancy double word!
I want an answer. yes or no

1363
01:22:32,881 --> 01:22:36,146
yes or no

1364
01:22:39,021 --> 01:22:41,479
Hello! Hutcheson?

1365
01:22:41,590 --> 01:22:43,433
that noise
What is that racket?

1366
01:22:43,509 --> 01:22:46,900
This is the press, baby.
the press,

1367
01:22:46,962 --> 01:22:49,897
And there is nothing
You can do about it. nothing
